The quilt I am sitting on was put together by Connie, still a work in progress, will be raffled later in the year or next spring. We raffle two a year!
History Happens Here. Under the guidance of our beloved historian Barb Stepic, Brooklyn’s past is being kept in the present. A longtime resident since 1967, Barb joined the Brooklyn Historical Society in 1973 and in 1980, became its president, a role she cherishes to this day.
Throughout the decades, Barb has dedicated her time and energy to ensuring that the history of our community is preserved and remembered. From meticulously documenting and archiving historical records to actively participating in numerous community events, projects and committees, she has been a driving force behind maintaining the memories.
On Tuesdays, Barb, along with her crew of steadfast and kind-hearted volunteers, ensures that the Brooklyn Historical Society Museum, in what could be referred to as her second home, is running smoothly. Memorabilia is bursting from every room and Barb can tell you about it all. Her favorite place in the museum is the library room filled with yearbooks dating as far back as 1945 and she just lights up when talking about days gone by.
In addition, Barb actively engages the members of the museum through her newsletters and social media promoting events such as monthly luncheons, guest speakers, raffles, along with the annual Shunpike Shoppe event.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Barb for her extraordinary care and passion for all things Brooklyn, and, of course, for making sure the good old days are always on file.
