TAKE ACTION to get the Creative Space Act and other priorities through the Senate! MASSCreative Action Network is asking you to contact your state senator Thursday (tomorrow!) and urge them to co-sponsor amendments:

#29, “Preserving the Creative Economy,” filed by Sen. Miranda to include the Creative Space Act - one of the MASSCreative Action Network's priority bills this session.
#20 "To make music affordable by reining in predatory ticket scalping" filed by Sen. Fernandes to establish new consumer protection requirements for the sale and resale of live event tickets.
#109 "Tourism and visitation Economic growth, new revenue and jobs" filed by Sen. Mark so that 1.5% of the state’s room occupancy excise from the last fiscal year will be credited to the Massachusetts Tourism Trust Fund.
#354 "Public Arts & Entertainment Microgrant Program" filed by Sen. Cyr to create a Public Arts & Entertainment Microgrant Program administered by the Mass Cultural Council.
#367 "Seasonal Communities Housing Fund" filed by Sen. Cyr to create a state fund to support seasonal communities housing, directly supporting seasonal arts communities.

The Creative Space Act would allow municipalities to establish a trust fund to acquire cultural spaces threatened by displacement. Advocates say the legislation would protect artist workspaces against the pressures of a tight real estate market.

Excited to announce the purchase and preservation of Central Street Studios in Somerville!

In Boston’s expensive real estate market, artists have found a novel way to combat displacement: banding together to buy their studios. This week, the Central Street Studios in Somerville became the latest to join the trend.

The CEF is designed to accelerate the careers and practice of a diverse group of artists and creative solopreneurs. This is a customized professional development experience for 8-10 individuals who are selected through a competitive application process. The program kicks off in December 2025 and runs through June 2026. 

The Fellowship includes personalized goal setting, one-on-one coaching, skills-training seminars, and a stipend for business-related purchases. In addition, it offers resources in English and Spanish. This is the 13th year of the program, which now has a robust alumni network of artists working across a range of media.
