Belmont Trolley

Belmont Trolley Restoring trolley service in Gaston County using cutting-edge battery technology.

Belmont Trolley's mission is to set Belmont apart as a unique destination and home town in North Carolina by bringing its past back to the future. ‘Belmont Trolley’ is a non-profit, volunteer operation dedicated to running, preserving and narrating the history of streetcars and their impact on the development of our local communities and other communities throughout the Southeast. We are proposing

to establish a historic trolley operation to run along the tracks between downtown Belmont and Belmont Abbey College. In conjunction with running streetcars, we would like to establish a museum to display regional streetcars and serve as a tourist destination for Belmont.

Today, Belmont Trolley had the pleasure of welcoming Elizabeth and Richard from NRHS to Belmont.

They were passing through town after attending the America 250 celebration this past weekend at the N.C. Transportation Museum, and their visit turned into a wonderful connection to trolley history.

Elizabeth shared that she once provided tours of Trolley Car #30 when it was displayed in Victoria, British Columbia. That same car is now Belmont Trolley's Car #16! Robert also shared stories from his previous involvement with railways throughout the Charlotte area and across North Carolina.

It was a wonderful reminder that historic rail equipment connects communities—and people—across generations and across the country.

We look forward to welcoming Elizabeth and Robert back to Belmont when our trolleys are back on the tracks! 🚋

The future of rail is being developed right here in Belmont. 🚋⚡

In partnership with UNC Charlotte College of Engineering, Belmont Trolley is helping bring groundbreaking wireless power transfer research from the lab to our tracks—exploring new ways to make rail transportation cleaner, more affordable and more accessible.

This is at the heart of Belmont Trolley’s mission: connecting our community through innovative transportation while creating opportunities for education, research and economic development.

We are so grateful to Luke Manlove and the team at Belmont's Specialty Foods for making our Fall event extra special! Luke brought a spread that was as beautiful as it was delicious—and then some. From planning to presentation, he's hands-on every step of the way, helping you make decisions that take your event from good to truly memorable. The menu? Mouth-watering. The touches he added to the display? Better than we could have imagined.

If you're planning an event and want to support a locally owned small business run by a Belmont native who genuinely cares about getting it right, Luke and his team are the ones to call. 🙌🧀🍽️

Did you know? The Piedmont & Northern Railway was originally built in 1911 by James Buchanan Duke—yes, that Duke! 🔌

The P&N was an electrically-powered interurban rail system linking major cities across the Piedmont of the Carolinas, serving as both a freight and trolley line. It sparked unprecedented growth in North Carolina's textile industry and helped shape the region we call home today.

Pretty cool history hiding right in our backyard! 🚃
