BREC's Magnolia Mound

BREC's Magnolia Mound MMP holds daily tours of the plantation home and outbuildings. Educational exhibits are displayed quarterly. http://www.friendsofmagnoliamound.org/

Through educational programs, workshops, lectures, festivals and other special events, Magnolia Mound's mission is to illustrate and interpret the lifestyle of the French Creoles who formed the fascinating culture which still influences the area. Located in the state’s capitol, BREC's Magnolia Mound is a rare survivor of the vernacular architecture influenced by early settlers from France and the

West Indies. This venerable landmark is unique in southern Louisiana not simply because of its age, quality of restoration or outstanding collections, but because it is still a vital part of the community. Through educational programs, workshops, lectures, festivals and other special events, MMP’s mission is to illustrate and interpret the lifestyle of the French Creoles who formed the fascinating culture, which still influences and pervades life in southern Louisiana. A number of special events are held throughout the year, including a French Creole Christmas Candlelight Tour and Black History Month. The plantation also hosts an historical society and occasional workshops and demonstrations on arts and crafts such as quilting, black powder muskets, lace tatting, and open-hearth cooking.

There's so much more to Magnolia Mound than what you see on a guided tour!

To highlight our mission as an educational resource, we'll be sharing treasures from our Archive, Research Library, and Archaeological Collection online each week. Each feature will include photographs and a brief description, offering a closer look at the unique materials that help tell Magnolia Mound's story.

Follow along each week and discover the collections, research, and history waiting to be explored beyond the tour.
