TODAY IN BLACK HISTORY | OCTOBER 14, 1964

On this day in 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was announced as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights.

At just 35 years old, Dr. King became the youngest recipient of the honor at that time. He dedicated his prize money to advancing the Civil Rights Movement, reinforcing his commitment to justice, equality, and collective action.

History is more than something we read. It's something we can experience.

OCTOBER 7TH | TODAY IN BLACK HISTORY

In 1977 the first Black woman to receive a Nobel Prize was Toni Morrison. The Nobel Prize in Literature shattered racial and gender barriers within the global literary canon. Her win validates the Black experience as universal art that continues to inspire generations to reclaim their narratives with resilience and unapologetic truth.
