I’m on another lacquer kick here. This Japanese lacquer box is absolutely luminous. I mean it glows, shines, radiates, and reflects. And it’s huge.

The design is also quite interesting, as it seems to offer two views of the same location in different seasons.

The Kodaiji style has fascinated me ever since I fist came across it. The design sensibility feels so modern, despite being over 400 years old.

Setup for the is just about complete. We’ll be ready for the sold out crowd expected for this evening’s grand opening gala.

The theme for this year’s show is “Home”. I wanted to create a space that was both welcoming and intimate. Somewhere you can relax with a book, or engage in lively conversation over a pot of tea.

A set of Chinese hongmu furniture inset with marble dreamstone panels anchors the space. The powerful pair of large calligraphy define the boundaries. The collection of Buddhist art and ritual objects bring soul and invite contemplation.
