The Richard Hudson collection is now available on the Digital Library of Georgia!

Donated to Hargrett in 2021, this collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, screenplays, etc. produced by a variety of gay writers, musicians, and other creatives. From 17th century literary works depicting q***r characters to more modern editions that explore human sexuality, this collection explores more than four centuries of published material.

The UGA Athletics in Your Town tour kicked off last week at the Suwanee Library! We enjoyed talking with Dawgs fans and sharing iconic archival material from football, baseball, and other UGA sports. With new collections from U.S. Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson now open at our Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, records from two of Georgia’s highest-ranking politicians of the early 2000s are now freely available to the public.

The collections provide insider perspectives into 21st century congressional debates, including budget and tax reform battles, the Affordable Care Act, and the Global War on Terror and the 2003-2011 Iraq War, as well as immigration issues and federal agriculture policy. In addition, the collections include campaign memorabilia, constituent correspondence, photographs, and other objects from Chambliss’s and Isakson’s life and service in state politics dating back to the 1970s.

This Pride Month, we welcome you to visit the Special Collections Libraries building and pay tribute to the “Prince of the Blues,” Billy Wright. The openly gay musician and drag performer had a huge influence on the Blues scene in Atlanta in the 1940s and 50s, and he was an inspiration and advisor for Little Richard.

We have some mementoes and information about Wright on display in the Brown Media gallery at Special Collections. Come check them out!

This year, UGA’s Black Theatrical Ensemble celebrated their 50th anniversary! The student organization was founded in 1976 by UGA journalism graduate student Larry Calhoun. The group did not have a dedicated space when initially founded, so they met in conference rooms across campus to rehearse and turned restrooms into dressing rooms. The student organization went on to put on shows each academic year, as they still do to this day.

Their 50th anniversary was celebrated with weeklong festivities from April 20th, 2026-April 26th, 2026.
