An invitation to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

This Memorial Day, we will be honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

We invite Manatee County residents to help us recognize these heroes by sharing photos, short video clips, and information about your loved ones who served and gave their lives in the United States Armed Forces.

If you would like your family member to be included in our Memorial Day presentation, please submit:
• A photo (in uniform, if available)
• Their full name and branch of service
• Rank, years of service, and any additional details you would like shared
• A brief message or memory you would like included (optional)

Submissions can be sent to: [email protected]

Deadline for inclusion: April 30, 2026

By sharing their stories, we ensure their sacrifice is remembered and honored by our entire community. ❤️🤍💙

Thank you for helping us pay tribute to those who gave everything for our freedom.

AMIHS was proud to announce TWO winners of the annual scholarship in honor of Pat Copeland, the historical society and museum co-founder who passed away in 2023. A special thanks to Joe Hendricks from the AMI Sun for a thorough report. We also thank the Anna Maria General Store for providing beer and wine. Thank you Double Deez and Pizzano’s for providing the delicious pizza.

Courtney Schultz and Jack Love are this year’s Pat Copeland Scholarship award winners.

Get ready for turtle season 🐢
Key 2026 Turtle Season Rules:
Remove Personal Items: All beach chairs, umbrellas, tents, and toys must be removed from the beach daily by sunset to avoid trapping turtles.

Lights Out: Turn off, shield, or redirect all lights visible from the beach. Use red or amber LED bulbs for outdoor lighting to avoid disorienting hatchlings.

Maintain Distance & Silence: Do not use flashlights, flash photography, or cell phone lights near nests at night. Keep a minimum of 50-100 feet distance from turtles.

Flatten the Beach: Fill in all sand holes and knock down sandcastles before leaving the beach to remove obstacles for hatchlings.

Report Incidents: Contact the Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch & Shorebird Monitoring at 941-778-5638 or FWC if you see a disoriented turtle or someone disturbing a nest.
