A visit to the Anna Maria Island Historical Complex is a trip back into Florida history. The Island has a vast and rich history beginning with its earliest times as an Indian fishing camp, to the arrival of the Spanish in 1530, to the Island’s first homesteader George Emerson Bean in 1893 and his son Wilhelm’s development of the first tract of land along with “Fig Newton” inventor Charles Roser. The Anna Maria Island Historical Society’s [AMIHS] beautifully restored complex interprets the Island’s history through its museum, City Jail, Belle Haven [cracker] Cottage and the Mangrove Walk’s indigenous garden.

The Anna Maria Island Historical Society wishes to thank Carol Carter, the City of Anna Maria Commissions' representative to the Society's Board of Directors, for her generous donation to the museum. Carter donated her unused campaign funds. She only needed to pay the fee to enter the election and had a surplus when she had no opponents. She is a valuable addition to the Society's Board of Directors. Here is is pictured with the Society's current President, Pat Copeland on the left. Pat is a founder of AMIHS.

We were rained out on the beach for awhile so we popped in here for a visit. Two VERY nice ladies greeted us and welcomed us in from the down pour. We had a 2 year old, 5 year old and a 17 year old and they were wonderful with the kids. Lots of great local history to view and read about. Nicely displayed and some hands on stuff for the kids. Each of the little ones got to select a trinket from the treasure box. Small gift shop with some unique items, bathroom and right next door the old jail. Parking lot small and stony. Tough on old legs or wheelchairs. We recommend a stop here and learn more about the history of this part of Florida and the US. Dinosaurs, Native Americans, Settlers, even Fig Newtons. July 2019
Hopefully this is her first and last time in jail!

I will eventually get more photos to you from the island. This was my grandpas house in Holmes Beach. There are still many houses around the area that he built. There is a small pond there that he built also. Morton Leigh Clark.

found this 6 1/2 " metal object on Anna Marie Island beach about 3wks ago. Don't know what is is, where or what it came from or what if anything it is worth? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a place or person where I could take it to have it appraised/looked at.
Lock him up, boys.
