A healthy arts community is built not only through major events, but through the smaller spaces that keep visual conversation alive week after week.

That is part of what Amherst’s Gallery A3 continues to offer. The current exhibition, Gesture and Line by Karen Iglehart, gives us another reason to pay attention to the role local galleries play in shaping how a creative town sees itself.

These are the spaces where experimentation, reflection, and sustained looking still matter.

HOPE FLOWS is an exhibit curated by Gallery A3 member Nancy Meagher. You can find it in North Gallery at Cooley Dickinson Hospital

Last year, third graders in Gina Wyman's class at Anne T. Dunphy School in Williamsburg, explored artifacts from the Mill River Flood of 1874. They sketched the medal given to local milkman and hero, Collins Graves, who saved lives. This exhibit is part of the "Art and Healing Project" at the hospital, offering support to patients and visitors.

"Mill River Flood Boot", drawing by Hazel, grade 3, 2025.
