Gajah Gallery is a Singapore based art gallery that explores the diverse concerns of contemporary Southeast Asia through art from the region with a particular emphasis on Indonesian Contemporary. Established in 1996, Gajah Gallery is dedicated to the promotion of Southeast Asian Contemporary Art with a particular emphasis on the Indonesian Contemporary. We exclusively represent leading Indonesian

Contemporary Artist, Nyoman Masriadi, Yunizar and the JENDELA group (Jumaldi Alfi, Handiwirman Saputra, Rudi Mantofani, Yusra Martunus, Yunizar). We have limited our scope of activity as it is our primary mission to gain representation for them before increasing our stable of artist. We are focused on these objectives as we believe that every generation produces a limited number of artists who reinvents the wheel. With growing interest in the recent years, Indonesian contemporary art has seen a marked increase in international collectors. Gajah Gallery's extensive client-base includes private collectors, art consultants, architects and interior designers. Exhibitions are held regularly at the gallery including collaborations with the Singapore Art Museum and the National University of Singapore Museum.

As we enter the first days of June and step into the warmth of summer, we turn to the expressive and distinctive imageries of Wei Ligang.

In “Summer Orchard”, the artist departs from his usual fervent strokes and potent ink forms to conjure a more muted and mellow scene. Set against a lush, verdant green backdrop, Wei Ligang retains his expressive calligraphic lines and gathers them into a posy of flower-like structures. Winding across the canvas, these blooms evoke the quiet beauty of an orchard awakening, and the rhythm of a summer unfolding. 🌱🌞

In After All This Time, Rosit Mulyadi reworks Juan Luna’s The Parisian Life to unravel the illusion of progress. Rosit’s appropriation crafts a powerful textual overlay, placing upon the original work the words' different faces the same old story’, with ‘old’ being crossed out and replaced by the word ‘man’. The text, combined with the female figure representing the marginalized, alludes to the pernicious nature of oppression and power.

In both its form and creative process, After All This Time crafts a reflective gesture and issues a challenge: pointing out that while time marches on and regimes may change, inequality remains an unchanged and exhausted narrative after all this time.

Capturing perception in flux, Uji “Hahan” Handoko Eko Saputro examines the shifting relationship between physical reality and its digital mediation in “Days That Slip Away Untouched”.

Drawing from a cache of references that range from pop culture to art history canon, all remixed to his artistic sensibility, Hahan reflects on how knowledge, power, and ways of seeing have shaped historical narratives. Through hybrid figures, altered landscapes, and scenes of disruptions— Hahan highlights the instability of the image in addressing the precarity of our era governed by algorithmic visibility.

Experience the exhibition before its final day, on May 31, at Gajah Gallery Jakarta.

“Architecture isn’t neutral.”
— Kayleigh Goh

Happy birthday, Kayleigh! 🎂

Goh distils the coldness of industrial materials — concrete, wood, gesso — into contemplative landscapes that feel like faint memories of space. Her paintings ask not what a room looks like, but what it feels like to remember one.

May the year ahead bring new rooms, new light, and new questions. 🌿
