Established in 1996, Gajah Gallery is dedicated to the promotion of Southeast Asian Contemporary Art with a particular emphasis on the Indonesian Contemporary. We exclusively represent leading Indonesian

Contemporary Artist, Nyoman Masriadi, Yunizar and the JENDELA group (Jumaldi Alfi, Handiwirman Saputra, Rudi Mantofani, Yusra Martunus, Yunizar). We have limited our scope of activity as it is our primary mission to gain representation for them before increasing our stable of artist. We are focused on these objectives as we believe that every generation produces a limited number of artists who reinvents the wheel. With growing interest in the recent years, Indonesian contemporary art has seen a marked increase in international collectors. Gajah Gallery's extensive client-base includes private collectors, art consultants, architects and interior designers. Exhibitions are held regularly at the gallery including collaborations with the Singapore Art Museum and the National University of Singapore Museum.

[𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗟𝗔] 𝗢𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 - 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀

This September, Gajah Gallery Manila presents 'Holding Structures, Soft Bodies,' a group exhibition bringing together Jemana Murti, Kayleigh Goh, and Sarah Choo Jing. Taking its departure from the familiar promise of structure, the exhibition considers how the frameworks that organise everyday life are shaped by the people, histories, and technologies that inhabit and transform them.

Across sculpture, painting, photography, and video installation, the three emerging artists approach these shifting structures from different perspectives — from Jemana’s coexistence of tradition and technology, to Kayleigh’s exploration of architecture and memory, and Sarah’s observations of the quiet dynamics of urban life.

'Holding Structures, Soft Bodies' opens on Saturday, 12 September, and will be on view at Gajah Gallery Manila until 11 October 2026. Join us the following afternoon, Sunday, 13 September, for a Public Talk with Kayleigh Goh and Arianna Mercado.

Last Friday, we witnessed the beauty of Latiff Mohidin’s work come to life. His distinct language of form runs through the exhibition, from ease in the movement of lines and colour in his paintings to the textured, tactile surfaces of his sculptures. These works invite us to look closer, and to experience the many stages of his artistic journey—where form, material and imagination continually find new ways to take shape.

In 'Untitled', Ridho Rizki presents a seascape where waves and shifting light fill much of the frame. A dark shoreline emerges along the lower edge, but offers little sense of where the scene might be, leaving the image suspended between a recognisable landscape and something more elusive.

As we look closer, the image starts to break apart. Waves, light, and reflections blend into one another, reflecting Ridho’s approach to deconstructing familiar images through painting. There is something nostalgic in the scene, but not tied to a particular place or memory. Instead, it recalls the feeling of remembering something that is already beginning to fade.

'Untitled' is currently on view at Frieze Seoul, Booth C29.

Latiff Mohidin's paintings and sculptures are rooted in his desire "to add the value of beauty in our lives," the essence of being.

Last Saturday's opening was a celebration of both artistic vision and intent. 'Latiff Mohidin: Lines to Form' honours this visionary's belief that drawing is not preparatory but integral to the whole artistic practice. Alongside his twenty works on paper from decades-long practice is Latiff Mohidin's first-ever bronze sculpture—'Bird 1' cast with a unique patina. From the intimacy of a drawn line to the solidity of bronze, Latiff's distinct artistic language and practice resist containment, continually taking new form in its exploration of beauty and being.

A defining milestone and a monumental chapter in Gajah Gallery's history—'Latiff Mohidin: Lines to Form', curated by Syed Muhammad Hafiz of LM Studio, opens today.

We are immensely proud to unveil Latiff Mohidin's first-ever cast bronze sculpture from his iconic Pago-Pago series entitled 'Burung 1' (Bird 1), produced in collaboration with Yogya Art Lab (YAL). One of Southeast Asia's most respected artists and poets, Mohidin's long-awaited foray into bronze marks a significant evolution in his practice.

The exhibition highlights twenty works on paper spanning four decades and four of his most celebrated series, Pago-Pago, Gelombang, Rimba, and Voyage. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see these works in conversation, many of them in Singapore for the first time.

Latiff Mohidin's immortal Pago-Pago is reborn in bronze.

Produced in collaboration with Yogya Art Lab (YAL), 'Burung 1' (Bird 1) marks Latiff Mohidin's first foray into cast bronze—a long-awaited endeavour of one of Malaysia's most celebrated painters, sculptors and poets. The sculpture was initially rendered in 'Ciment Fondu' in 1967 featuring an organic shape, with a bulbous upper portion and varied, organically formed textures reminiscent of the highly expressive Pago-Pago series. Rather than following the conventional modelling process of working first in clay, the bronze sculpture was created through a direct-build process from the original Ciment Fondu, resulting in a uniquely layered work.

Scaled up and casted in a unique patina, 'Burung 1' (Bird 1) extends the enduring language of Pago-Pago into a new medium.

'Burung 1' (Bird 1) will be unveiled in his solo exhibition 'Latiff Mohidin: Lines to Form' on August 29 at Gajah Gallery Singapore. Exhibited together with this monumental sculpture are his works on paper, holding particular significance for YAL's own roots as a space to experiment with handmade paper before growing into a full-fledged bronze foundry. Paper and bronze—the two mediums at the heart of YAL’s evolution—meet within a single exhibition.

In 2023, 'Indonesian Young Artists (IYA!): Redefining the Indonesian Aesthetic' exhibition explored how a new generation of artists navigated the turbulent transition of an era. Breaking away from traditional and repetitive artistic conventions, the Indonesian art scene embraced a multitude of distinct visual languages, techniques, and media.

Curated by Duls Rumbawa, the exhibition featured 10 emerging talents: Bio Andaru, Dabi Arnasa, Dikco Ayudya, Dini Nur Aghnia, Dzikra Afifah, Hari Gita, Herru Yoga, Raden Kukuh Hermadi, Sel Yoon-Suak, and Syaura Qotrunadha.

At its core, the exhibition confronted the challenge of finding patterns and synthesizing what shaped these young artists’ identities—examining not only the unique stories and themes of their artworks, but also the overall spirit that unified their artistic practices.
