Last Saturday we had the pleasure of having an engaging Artist Talk with Geert Goiris and Ernst van Alphen. Many thanks to everyone who attended!
Geert Goiris took us into his world of analog photography. Together with Ernst van Alphen, he reflected on themes of time, story and the tension between documentation and imagination. His highly detailed images, often without clear context of time and place, evoke both recognition and alienation, encouraging viewers to create their own meaning.
Goiris also discussed his fascination with geologic time - the vast, incomprehensible scale in which human existence is but a fleeting moment. He likes to capture landscapes that have remained unchanged for millions of years or will disappear in the distant future. Rather than seeing photography as a way to capture a specific moment in the past, he creates images that carry a certain ambiguity. Are they remnants of a distant past or glimpses into an unknown future?
From February 15 to March 15, the exhibition 'Geert Goiris - 28 Portals' is on view. Opening Saturday, February 15, 4-6 pm. You are most welcome.
