Each edition brings a different kind of excitement. I am proud to be working with the Living Horse Museum again and cannot wait to share what we have been creating.

In the next few days, we will announce the exhibiting artists, followed by a very special programme.

I’ve been invited to give a presentation towards the end of this year on a subject that lies at the heart of my work as an equine art curator: how our understanding of the horse has shaped its representation in art.

So, it is time to take the books off the shelf and brush up on my George Stubbs knowledge. Few artists have influenced the way horses are observed, understood and portrayed quite as profoundly as Stubbs.

I’m looking forward to delving deeper into his remarkable legacy and preparing this presentation.

Behind the scenes in Bahrain last winter.

Working in different places and cultural settings has taught me that every project requires something different. No two spaces, audiences or occasions are the same, and finding what feels right is always a careful process.

I am honoured to have been invited by the Embassy of Turkmenistan to curate a Paard Verzameld pavilion at the Akhal-Teke World Championship 2026.

Celebrating the beauty, elegance and cultural heritage of the Akhal-Teke horse, the event will bring together an international equestrian audience.

The pavilion will offer a broader perspective on contemporary equine fine art through a selection of works by Mirelle Vegers and Nadiia Zhebrakovska.

4–6 September 2026

I’m pleased to share one of the projects I’ll be curating this year: The Windsong Horses, a solo exhibition by Australian artist Karenosbornart.

Over the past months we’ve been working closely across continents to shape an exhibition that reflects both Karen’s evolving practice and the story we want visitors to experience. It’s been a rewarding collaboration, and I’m looking forward to seeing it come together.

The Windsong Horses opens this October 18th at the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre in Queensland, Australia.

Congratulations to my friend Kyoko Yoshida, whose work is currently on view at the National Art Center in Tokyo.

I have known Kyoko and followed her artistic career for many years, so it is especially wonderful to see her reach this milestone.

Every so often, an artist reaches out and something in the work makes me stop and look a little longer.

Mark Fraley’s collages did exactly that.

There’s something fresh in the way he builds the horse from fragments of place, colour and found material. It feels familiar and unexpected at the same time.

Still curious to see where the work goes, which is often the most interesting place to start.

One to watch.
