Buro Stedelijk is pleased to present 'Every Worm Trampled Is a Star', the first European solo exhibition by Amsterdam-based artist Aram Lee.

Centred on Seoul's former Yongsan military base, the project imagines the voice and memory of the land itself. Through moving image, sound, and installation, Lee traces memories held within the soil: displaced communities, buried microorganisms, erased landscapes, and the many attempts to occupy, map, flatten, and heal the site across generations.

For 138 years, the Yongsan site was closed off from surrounding communities through histories of colonisation, war, and military occupation. Today, as the land is gradually being returned to public use, Lee's work asks what else might return alongside it.

The exhibition marks the first presentation of Lee's 2026 SONGEUN Art Award Grand Prize-winning work as a spatial installation.

HORROR: MADE IN TURKEY 🧛‍♂️ 🔮 👻

Visual and performance artists EMIRHAKIN () and Elif Satanaya Özbay () explore the evolution of Turkish horror cinema through film excerpts, conversation, and visual materials, tracing how themes of possession, folklore, gender, religion, and power have shaped the genre over the last two decades. 🎞️

Moving between personal experience and film analysis, the presentation looks at how Turkish horror developed from imitations of Western classics into a distinct cinematic language rooted in local beliefs, Quranic symbolism, and collective anxieties. 🎬

A Participatory Fashion Event
by

WE WEAR THE WORLD is part workshop, part runway, part collective art-making. Together with visual artist Larissa Neslo, you’ll transform worn garments into personal statements through cutting, knotting, painting, writing, and reshaping. Bring a piece from your own wardrobe or work with second-hand clothing provided on site. Add new stories to old fabrics, connect with someone else’s memories, or stitch your own into the mix 🧵

With music, movement, and interventions by dancer Laura Goosens, everyone becomes maker, model, and audience at once. 💫

No experience or reservation needed, just show up with your clothing item and we’ll help you do the rest!

Open Call Event: Can a motherboard become a writing companion? 💻⚡️✍️

Words and Wires brings together creative writing and digital tinkering in a hands-on workshop where you’ll build a cyberwriter: a portable, distraction-free writing device made from old e-readers and thrifted materials, liberating our digital writing practice, even momentarily, from Big Tech.
Along the way, we’ll reflect on our relationship with the technologies that shape creative practice and imagine alternatives grounded in care, slowness, intimacy, and skill-sharing 🌀

No coding or tinkering experience required, just curiosity and a creative practice. So just bring your laptop, we’ll provide the rest!

Open Call Events
Four ideas, four events. A city-wide open call to propose live events. ✨

We are extremely excited to announce the artists and creatives that will present their own event on June 11 + 13!

On June 11 at 1.30 PM Simulacrum Magazine x sudo. nano will present Words and Wires: A Cyberwriter Workshop on the Possibility of Small Tech 🤖 At 6.30 PM artists EMIRHAKIN and Elif Satanaya Özbay will perform HORROR: Made in Turkey, that explores Turkish horror cinema 🎥

On June 13 we will start the day with Karmel Sabri who will guide an intimate one-on-one participatory performance at 10.30 AM called Everything Is Going to Be Okay 🍵 Last but not least Visual artist Larissa Neslo invites us into a live participatory fashion event named WE WEAR THE WORLD at 2.30 PM 👗

Meet the new Buro Stedelijk team — Jo-Lene Ong (Curator) and Anouk van Amsterdam (Project Manager) ✨👋

There’s a new energy at Buro Stedelijk. As an independently managed and curated project space inside the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, we’re entering an exciting second phase. Our vibe? Where the city moves the museum.

We want to open up our framework to co-author with the city’s diverse publics: connecting communities, bridging generations, and bringing the fresh ideas taking shape around us straight into the space. Our aim is to make room for practices important to its diasporic publics, and for ways of seeing and being that don’t always appear within dominant frameworks.

Buro Stedelijk is supported by Ammodo and Fonds 21 from its inception to the present. 🙌
