T293 is pleased to present the last show of this exhibition season: 'Belle de nuit', Also on view: William Pilè.

"Belle de nuit", a term adopted in the 19th century by French artists to designate prostitutes as the new protagonists of their paintings, is intended to be a disenchanted story, without judgment or glorification, a harsh proposal to the eye.

William Pilè, who graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 2024, expresses the desolation of new spaces with modernity through paintings that show deserted streets and an unreal light. The color scheme and the quick brushstrokes help to raise the desire to drag the gaze where it does not want to rest, in those places that everyone thinks are non-places, but which for many are existential spaces.

Each of the Travellers embodies diverse narratives, carried as either a burden or a gift, akin to landscapes etched on their bodies or echoes of ancient structures. These forms serve as allegories, reflecting a world in flux and offering insights into humanity’s evolving presence on the earth.

Through her art, Lito Kattou probes into themes of belonging, communal dynamics, the essence of exchange, the isolation bred by displacement, and the conflict between retaining one’s roots versus succumbing to external pressures.

Lito Kattou’s “Travellers” is on view at T293 Rome until March 23, 2024.

Hangama Amiri’s solo show “A Homage To Home” is currently on view at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (Kansas City), until August 24th , 2024.

Amiri’s choice of materials stems from autobiographical origins—her mother taught her to sew and her uncle was a tailor. Her textiles also reference the colors and fabrics she remembers in the bazaars and on the streets in Kabul. She sources her materials from an Afghan-owned shop in New York City’s fashion district, collaging with fabric and painting on the surfaces.

‘Travellers’ by Lito Kattou will be open to the public throughout March 2024.

Each one of the Travellers is carrying a different story felt as a burden or as a gift. Those bodies are parables, agents of a world in transformation and a mechanism of understanding the presence of humans on earth seen now differently.
Landscapes engraved on their bodies, relics of buildings, weapons, copper plated flowers collected from the Mediterranean area, umbrellas, tools or other carried folded shelters that could be used throughout the journey, might reveal adaptive readiness for their journeys.

T293 opening hours: Tuesday- Friday 12-7 pm; Saturday 3-7 pm.

Simon Denny’s works are currently on view at KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin, as part of “Poetics of Encryption: Art and the Technocene”, an extensive group exhibition builds upon the recent book by Nadim Samman.
It surveys an imaginative landscape marked by Black Sites, Black Boxes, and Black Holes—terms that indicate how technical systems capture users, how they work in stealth, and how they distort cultural space-time. These themes form the basis three chapters that play out across all gallery floors at KW. Spanning analogue and digital media, Poetics of Encryption features both historic and newly commissioned works by more than 40 international artists.

The show is open to the public until May 26, 2024

Throw back to November ’23 when Claire Fontaine transformed three emojis into luminous sculptures at T293.

The artist has once again captivated the art world with her latest series, where she deftly transforms three everyday emojis into dazzling luminous sculptures. Known for her innovative approach to contemporary art, Claire Fontaine’s latest creations push the boundaries of perception and interpretation.

“We have learned to appropriate the metonymies of readymade emotions, the same for everyone but unique for each life, exactly as we did for language. The words to express ourselves are identical for everyone and the reason why we understand them is precisely that they belong to each of us, they are a common heritage and the object of continuous exchange between anyone who shares the use of a language.”

“ I dreamed about a culture of belonging. I still dream that dream”
— Bell Hooks

The dream of a culture of belonging is not merely a fleeting wish; it is a powerful affirmation of our shared humanity. It calls upon us to break down the barriers that separate us and to cultivate spaces of inclusivity, empathy, and understanding.
Lito is questioning these themes within the exhibition space, creating a path that describes the journey and formation of a community in transit.

Isaac Soh Fujita Howell’s introspective brushstrokes unravel the fabric of societal estrangement, challenging us to preserve our shared humanity amidst forces that threaten to divide us. As we confront ideologies that diminish our collective experience, we must ask: How do we safeguard our humanism in a world that demands conformity over authenticity? Can we resist the allure of machinehood and nurture our essence as individuals?

T293

Established in 2002 in an historical building of the Neapolitan center, in Via dei Tribunali 293, T293 is initially conceived as a curatorial space. Always characterized by a lucid awareness of current artistic practices and a strong research activity, T293 was soon characterized by the experimental nature of its exhibitions and by the presentation of conceptually relevant artistic reflections. Despite its numerous transformations over time, T293 has retained this approach to contemporary art and aesthetics to this day. T293 changed its organizational structure in 2006 and became a commercial art gallery. In 2010 the gallery opened its main office in Rome with the intention of strengthening its position on the national territory. It is now located in via Ripense, in the historic Trastevere district, in a space of over 400 square meters which preserves the original structures of the previous activity, a metal workshop. The artists, in fact, are continuously tested by the peculiarity of the exhibition space and by the inevitable comparison with the artistic history of the city of Rome. In the midst of these contrasts and challenges, T293 induces a dialogue between several generations of experts and welcomes a qualified and cosmopolitan audience, placing itself as the center of a cohesive professional network. Particularly sensitive to the involvement of the new generation of emerging personalities, the gallery has been at the forefront in the use of social media for the dissemination and ex*****on – even beyond borders – of its program, projects and its own message. The great dedication to always find what is new in the complexity of the panorama of contemporary art has allowed the gallery to host the debut exhibitions of some of the figures recognized today as the most interesting internationally.
