Opening day at Kaghaz Ki Kashti: Retracing Memories of Boyhood.

The retrospective opened at Bihar Museum with the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, followed by a walkthrough of Rajesh Ram’s expansive body of work, bringing together over three decades of his practice.

What made the day particularly special was seeing the exhibition being experienced across generations. Visitors moved through the galleries, stopped to look closer, shared stories, and found their own ways into Rajesh Ram’s world.

At the heart of it were the artist’s bronze sculptures of young boys — perhaps the works that speak most directly to the spirit of the exhibition. Their gestures, expressions and quiet moments of play become familiar again, inviting us to look back at boyhood not as something distant, but as a memory that continues to stay with us.

Bihar Museum Foundation Day Celebration

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Sri Samrat Choudhary was the chief guest and inaugurated the celebration. Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Sri Bijendra Prasad Yadav was the special guest on the occasion. Dr. Pramod Kumar, Minister for Art and Culture, presided over the celebration.

Many ministers and senior officials, besides the guests and Padma Shri artists, also attended the event.

A conversation around the two exhibitions inaugurated on the occasion of Bihar Museum’s Foundation Day brought together perspectives on the trajectories, practices and evolving narratives of modern and contemporary Indian art.

Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Gautam, Director General, NGMA, New Delhi, spoke about the exhibition Indian Masters, presented in collaboration with NGMA, which brings together the works of 103 modern Indian masters and traces the diverse currents that have shaped Indian modernism.

Artist Rajesh Ram, along with Shweta and Rohit Gandhi of Palette Art Gallery, introduced the audience to Kaghaz Ki Kashti, a retrospective of Rajesh Ram’s practice, presented in collaboration with Palette Art Gallery.

As a prelude to the upcoming Bihar Museum Biennale, a seminar on the Folk Art of India and the World was organised at Bihar Museum on 8 August.

Sharath Nambiar, Director of DakshinaChitra, and Shashidhara Rao, General Secretary of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, spoke about their institutions and the folk traditions of their regions, while artist Surjit Akre who has lived and worked in Russia spoke about the folk art traditions of Russia.

A special conversation with Bihar’s Padma Shri folk artists — Nirmala Devi, Ashok Kumar Biswas, Baua Devi, Dulari Devi, Shanti Devi and Shivan Paswan — explored the present and future of Bihar’s folk arts, in dialogue with Director General Anjani Kumar Singh.

Padma Shri Shyam Sharma and Dr. B. Rajendra, Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, were also present.

The seminar opened up a dialogue on the diversity, continuity and evolving relevance of folk traditions across cultures.

After days of careful installation, every sculpture has found its place, every sightline has been considered, and the galleries are ready to open.

The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary; Hon’ble Minister for Art, Culture & Youth, Dr. Pramod Kumar; Shri Pranav Kumar, Secretary, Department of Art, Culture & Youth; Shri Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Director General, National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA); and Shri Anjani Kumar Singh, Director General, Bihar Museum.

The celebrations marked the launch of two publications and the inauguration of three exhibitions!

The exhibitions are now open to visitors.
