The Court and Camp of Runjeet Sing by William Godolphin Osborne, a rare 1st edition published in 1840.
Osborne, who served as Military Secretary to Lord George Eden Auckland, Governor-General of India, accompanied him to Lahore in 1838 and recorded his impressions of the Court of Maharajah Ranjit Singh during the period from 19 May to 13 July of that year. His book reads like a vivid journal, offering not only an intimate glimpse into the political and cultural landscape of Punjab at the time, but also his personal observations and experiences.
The volume is introduced with an insightful account of the origin and rise of the Sikh people, and it concludes with a series of personal letters exchanged between Osborne and the Maharajah—adding further depth to the narrative. What makes this edition particularly special is the inclusion of sixteen exquisite lithographic portraitures, drawn by Osborne himself, depicting various courtiers and members of Ranjit Singh’s family.

Antique Tanjore plate from 19th century.
At the centre of this plate is Goddess Saraswati, the revered deity of knowledge, music, and wisdom.
Encircling the central image, the second ring features both Krishna and Saraswati, a rare combination.
The outermost circle illustrates the Rasleela, a vibrant and rhythmic depiction of Krishna dancing with the Gopis.

This plate was gifted to Dr. A. H. Leapingwell, born in 1847.
Thanjavur plate, measuring 18 x 18 inches and weighing approximately 2.5 kg, is a stunning example of South Indian metal artistry. Crafted using the traditional tri-metal technique, it harmoniously combines silver, bronze, and copper. Thanjavur plate stands as a testament to the craftsmanship and sacred imagination of South Indian artisans—an enduring artefact of piety, artistry, and legacy.
