🚨 Armed Attack in Kharagpur: Youth Threatened with Revolver, Stabbed with Sharp Weapon
Kharagpur, West Bengal: A shocking incident of violence was reported from Kharagpur on Tuesday night, where a youth was allegedly threatened with a revolver and then attacked with a sharp weapon by two unidentified assailants.
The victim, Rajesh Gupta, a resident of Jai Hind Nagar, had left home around 7:45 PM to pick up his son from tuition classes. As he reached the area near the B-Type Quarters, two men riding a Hero Splendor motorcycle intercepted him.
According to Rajesh's statement, one of the attackers, who was sitting on the pillion seat, got down and confronted him while the rider remained on the motorcycle. One of the accused was wearing a helmet, while the other had his face uncovered.
Rajesh alleged that the attackers first displayed a revolver, believed to be a 9mm pistol, in an attempt to terrorize him. Although the weapon was not fired, the suspects allegedly threatened him and then launched a violent assault using a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting a serious injury to his abdomen and attacking him from behind.
During the attack, Rajesh said one of his slippers fell off as he tried to escape. At that moment, two other motorcycles entered the area, and the presence of nearby Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel appears to have frightened the attackers, who fled the scene before causing further harm.
Bleeding and seriously injured, Rajesh was rescued by a friend who happened to be passing by in his car. Without delay, he drove Rajesh directly to the police station. Police officials documented his injuries before sending him to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he received first aid and medical treatment.
Speaking after the incident, Rajesh said he did not recognize either of the attackers and was unaware of any personal dispute that could have motivated the assault. However, he recalled hearing one of the assailants telling the other to "shoot him in the leg and leave him," though no shots were fired.
Police have begun questioning the victim and are investigating all possible angles, including whether the attack was targeted or a case of mistaken identity. Investigators are reviewing evidence, collecting witness statements, and searching for the two accused who fled on the motorcycle.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far. The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who are demanding swift action against the perpetrators and stronger security measures in the area. ?
