Az éppen 20 éves Debreceni Nemzetközi Művésztelep volt a Református Kollégium vendége. Az osztrák, szlovén, szlovák, lengyel és magyar kortárs szcénából érkező képzőművészeket és építészeket egy különleges debreceni épület, Liszkay Sámuel fürdőháza hozta össze a nyár közepén a városunkban. Az alkotók a Nagykönyvtárában kézbe vehették azokat a Bibliákat, judaisztikai, hidrológiai és helytörténeti köteteket, amelyek segíthetnek felfejteni a fennállása során már zsidó imaházként, katolikus kápolnaként és vigadóként is használt Liszkay-fürdőház történeti rétegeit. A Kollégium Múzeumát és Oratóriumát bejárva pedig közelebbről megismerték azt a református felekezetet, amelyhez a debreceniek többsége tartozott azokban az időkben, amikor imádkozni jártak a helyi zsidó kereskedők, majd az iskolanővérek a ma a Svetits Gimnázium udvarának közepén álló, regényes történetű épületbe. • Fotó: Vigh Levente.
The Reformed College hosted the participants of the Debrecen International Artist in Residence, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Visual artists and architects from the contemporary art scenes of Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary were brought together in our city in the middle of this summer by a unique Debrecen building: Sámuel Liszkay’s bathhouse. In the College's Great Library, the artists were able to thumb into Bibles, as well as volumes on Jewish Studies, hydrology and local history, which helped them unravel the historical layers of the Liszkay Bathhouse – a building that, over the course of its existence, has served as a Jewish synagogue, a Catholic chapel and a social hall. Whilst touring the College Museum and Oratory, they gained a closer insight into the Reformed Church to which the majority of Debrecen’s inhabitants belonged in those days, when local Jewish merchants and later the school sisters went to pray in the building with this entangled history, and which now stands in the centre of the Svetits Grammar School courtyard. • Photo: Levente Vigh.
