Exploring local history and collective memory, 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘹 2026: 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘙𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘦𝘭 invites participants to co-create a paper canopy that becomes a shared refuge. With participants’ contributions to the Filipino artist’s installation, their clusters of leaves, vines and abstract terrain fragments grow into small landscapes that interweave networks of stories. Throughout the participatory process, this slowly evolving, collective landscape evokes participants’ contemplation of the ideas of migration and belonging.

Taking place each summer at Tai Kwun, 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘹 explores alternative and innovative approaches to community engagement and imagines new futures for the museum.

Hong Kong artist Isaac Chong Wai debuts a new live art commission that revisits the concept of “gender performativity” in the arts, taking the celebrated Chinese novel and film 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘶𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘦 as a point of departure. Building on his recent performance projects revolving around the tensions inherent in human interactions, the exhibition brings together the artist’s meticulous choreography and durational interventions by performers within a large-scale installation of etched glass and mirrors. Intimate interactions and fragile encounters are broken down into prolonged states of repetition and suspension, interrogating constructs of Asian masculinity and other entrenched perceptions of identity.

Performance and durational interventions will take place in the afternoons throughout the exhibition period.

How can cultural practice move beyond representation to actively foster new connections – between species, across spaces, and within communities? In the beginning of this year, the two-week programme, 𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱_ 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘦 2026: 𝘜𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘴, invites art theorists and scholars, curators, artists, and philosophers to converse and discuss with the participants, constructing a platform for the convergence of ideas. This edition explores new perspectives and possibilities for future institutions and systems – from rethinking space, to restructuring social contracts, and to reaching a future built on adaptive and unbound relations. Meanwhile, Temp_ Institute also provides practical support for sustainable artistic and career development.
Watch this interview to learn more about the curator’s and participants’ observations and insights, which potentially foster spaces for collaboration.

Wandering through the forest-like environment, moving beneath and around floating foliage – 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘹 2026: 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘙𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘦𝘭 invites participants of all ages to co-create a paper canopy that evolves over time, gradually becoming a shared, collective landscape. In this slow-growing, participatory programme, multi-level suspended clusters of leaves assemble small landscapes that reflect participants’ own interpretation of a “pleasant place.”

𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 belongs to the Filipino artist Ryan Villamael’s ongoing Locus Amoenus series – referring to a dreamlike pastoral landscape of refuge, abundance and harmony. This series explores history and collective memory, looking at the interpenetrating layers that constitute a locality and the invisible threads that connect us to it.

Through examining the legacies of economic development on society and the environment, the exhibition 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥: 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘦 makes visible the individuals obscured within global production systems. At the exhibition galleries’ entrance, the suspending artwork 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘥𝘴 not only reflects the artist Li Jinghu’s personal memories but also offers factory workers room for imagination. Also suspended in midair, Jaffa Lam’s 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘯𝘰.2 attempts to re-activate idle labourers and materials through the art-making process.

Last days of 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥: 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘦: on view until 31 May

Using China as the research entry point, 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥: 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘦 features over 40 artists who employ diverse research methodologies to document globalisation’s effects on environments, workplaces, communities and personal histories. Their works focus on often untold stories of individual labourers from different industries, uncovering experiences hidden within historical narratives while offering intimate portraits of separation, longing and belonging. Forging connections through artistic practice, the exhibition invites audiences to consider what it means to stay connected – not only through what we consume, but through shared experiences, struggles and futures yet to be written. Come see the final weekend of the exhibition!

The artist collective Foreign Investment will be hosting a closing sale from 2pm – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday (30 to 31 May) where you can purchase a golden item. Learn more about their project and take home a piece from their artwork.

As part of 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥: 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘦, Foreign Investment’s participatory project has collected unwanted items from the public and has transformed them through gilding.
