Whitstable Community Museum Group

Whitstable Community Museum Group A community charity that operates Whitstable Museum on behalf of Canterbury City Council.

In 2014, local community groups including the Whitstable & District Chamber of Commerce, The Whitstable Society, The WIT, The Friends of Whitstable Museum, Whitstable Historical Society, The Favourite Trust and the Crab & Winkle Trust set up a new charity to manage Whitstable Museum on behalf of Canterbury City Council. The Museum is run on a volunteer basis and the success of this project will be dependent on a great deal of public support.

Great interest has been created by Whitstable Museum's exhibition of Peter and Helen's contribution to the stage, film and TV over five decades. Generous fans and family have loaned items of great interest including the famous slippers, watercolours he painted and a cast of his face used for prosthetics.

Bill Coleman - Museum Display
In honour of one of Whitstable's Original Characters, the Museum has put a small display of artefacts and Bill's photos in the window to celebrate his life and achievements.
If any of the photos were taken by you, please contact us so we can credit you in this important archive. Bill was never sure which of his friends gave him which photo!

Bill Coleman RIP
Bill contributed to Whitstable Museum with his stories of steam engine driving, boatbuilding, gun punts and fishing. He generously shared his memories, his broad knowledge, his photographs and sometimes blunt commentary. Bill rebuilt this oyster dredge for the Museum and it is demonstrated to many school groups each year. One of a kind who will be missed!
