A place has just become available!

Due to a cancellation, I now have a place available on my Discover Ink & Watercolour Workshop this Saturday, 31st October, from 10am–3pm at my Welburn Studio.

We'll be exploring the wonderful combination of watercolour and acrylic ink, experimenting with expressive marks, textures and techniques, using a rich, autumnal palette with a nod to Halloween.

It's a lovely opportunity to spend a creative day painting.

All materials provided - beginners welcome.

Inspired by the iconic North York Moors, Afterglow is painted in watercolour and acrylic ink on paper.

What I love most about painting landscapes is the challenge of capturing atmosphere and feeling rather than every detail – the shifting light, colours and textures that make wild places like the North York Moors such an important part of our natural heritage.

I'm planning to share more of my original paintings here, and this one is now available for sale.

A lovely day painting autumn colours at Castle Howard Arboretum today.

Thank you to everyone who joined me today – it was lovely to see such a brilliant variety of beautiful paintings taking shape.

And while we're on the subject of autumn, here’s a date for your diary - I'll be opening my studio in Welburn YO60 7EP for North Yorkshire Open Studios on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November.

There'll be lots of original paintings to browse, and it's always lovely to welcome visitors, whether you're looking for a painting or simply fancy coming along for a chat and a look around.

A lovely workshop at Breezy Knees Gardens yesterday!

We spent the morning exploring expressive autumn trees in watercolour, experimenting with colour, texture and mark-making – all without masking fluid! Instead, we explored simple ways to preserve the whites of the paper and create lovely autumn textures.

I love seeing how everyone interprets the same theme in their own way. A big thank you to everyone who joined me for such an enjoyable morning. And of course thank you also to Breezy Knees for hosting :)

My October workshops are almost fully booked, but there are still some spaces available in November if you'd like to come along and enjoy some creative time with watercolour.

After almost a month in Spain, I’m home again — and these are a few photographs from the second of my two painting retreats, at Casa de los Cuadros in the beautiful white village of Villaluenga del Rosario in Andalucía.

We spent four days painting and sketching, surrounded by dramatic limestone mountains, white houses, rooftops, olive trees and wonderful changing light.

During the week we explored colour and texture, simplified the landscape into shapes and tones, experimented with ink, water, wax, salt and found marks, and gradually moved towards everyone making more of their own choices about what and how they wanted to paint.

There were beginners alongside more experienced painters, and one of my favourite things was seeing how differently everyone responded to the same landscape. Put all the paintings together and you really could see eight individual ways of looking at the world.

Here are a few glimpses of the place, the process and some of the paintings we created along the way.

Thank you to everyone who came and threw themselves into the week — and to Casa de los Cuadros for giving us such an inspiring part of Andalucía to paint. ❤️

I’ve come home with a sketchbook full of ideas and so much that I still want to paint myself…
