South West Herts Model Railway Society A Model Railway Society based at The Lincolnsfield Centre in Bushey, near Watford. also open Mon & Wed mornings 10.30-13.00

If you are interested in joining please come along to one of our club nights on
either a Tuesday or Thursday evening from 19:30. Membership is in the mid twenties and we are always happy to welcome visitors and potential new members. We have access to the clubroom 7 days a week but our main club nights are Tuesdays & Thursdays 19.30 to 22.00 approx. Unfortunately we no longer have any members specialising in ‘0’ gauge and the permanent ‘0’ gauge layout in the clubroom has been removed to allow space for layouts under construction. The current 'N' gauge layout is called 'Dudley Frey', after a member who sadly passed away. It is a circuit 16 feet long and 3 feet wide with 4 running roads. Automatic light signals are installed and work is progressing on an extening the layout. Our 'OO' gauge layout is called Tedburn St Mary which is also 16 feet long. Some might say it a bit ‘long in the tooth’ but it is still receiving invitations to exhibition and in November we will be taking it to ‘Warley’. Another ‘00’ layout is Silverbury which just has its scenic's to complete before it too can join the exhibition circuit. We also have an 0-16.5 layout being built. Social events have included the Annual Dinner in January, a Bar-B-Que during the Summer and visits to places of interest such as the Daily Mirror printing works, we also went to the Warley Exhibition last November. Last year one of our younger members started a club magazine, ‘That There Magazine’, which is very interesting. Click on the link and read it for your self.

St Peter's autumn exhibition is done from a visitors number perspective it was very poor ... Really dont know what we could have done to boost the numbers... Shame because it was enjoyable and those that actually turned out really enjoyed themselves. Last year far more families this year a bust. Maybe Watford doesnt want a second exhibition ...
Its hard enough trying to get people to come to our larger event in May.

Several of the 00 group at SW Herts are busy working on a DCC 00 Finescale model of Dulverton -summer of 1963... The layout isnt being built at our clubhouse because there simply isnt room- What with around 5 or 6 other layouts already in there. Follow us to see how we are doing - The buildings came from a house clearance the club did - we are building the layout around these rather than the other way around and just to make it more fun the track is super elevated as per the real thing..

So the nights are drawing in and the club is looking forward to several important dates.. First one Saturday 3rd October 2026- Our Autumn exhibition -Venue: St Peters Church Hall, Bushey Mill Lane, Watford, WD24 7TF.
Open: 10.00 – 16.00
Admission: Adults £4.00, Accompanied children under 16 – up to 2 free with each adult
Amenities: Close to M1 Junction 5 (with A41)
Refreshments, wheelchair access throughout. On-site parking.
Layouts attending -Dudley Frey,(N) Fudge Town,(00) Thomas Town , (00)Jurassic Halt, (0-9 and 0e9), Lincolnsfield (oil depot),(N) Preston’s End (by Laurence),(N) Nostalgia (from Phil Chown)(Multiple levels and gauges) and Fire Creek (On-30)) plus an additional N gauge layout from one of the club members.
Next-The club has been asked to exhibit our large 00 layout Silverbury at both the Spalding Exhibition and also the NEC Exhibition at the end of October and end of November respectively.
Another thing to remember the club is open on the last Sunday of the month normally April through to November.. Feel free to drop in and see us -we dont bite!

Silverbury as you can see is a tight fit into our clubhouse! The layout is out at Spalding and the NEC later this year -each time we have gone out the scenics have changed slightly - Last time we had a Post office depot instead of a through shed - Now we have added a DMU platform instead of one of the DMU sidings... I understand that most of the signalling is up and working too.
