Wednesday morning at clubhouse - a couple of members eager to try out new locos on the test track Ron was on the N Gauge and Rob was working on both Luffield (for most of the time) and had a squint at the new point work which we had laid on Silverbury - still some work to be done on that to finish .
I started on the "fun" job of starting to ballast Luffield Junction .the weather isnt exactly condusive for that but a start has had to be made.

Just back from the club house this morning 3 of us present - Phil Chown has started dismantling the former control box from the Silverbury 00 layout (now that this has been replaced). The plan will be to us this for the Luffield Junction layout .
I replaced the damaged point on the access to the right hand fiddle yard on Luffield thats wired in and the point control system re-attached. I also have painted the rails and chairs on this to blend in with the rest of the trackwork .
Rob Thomas had his box of tricks (MERG) and was having fun setting up the point control servos on the left hand fiddle yard of Luffield.

We have figured out the station access so Phil will set about setting the underpass into the platform. My next visit will be in the new year (when I am not invigilating exams) and I will start on the long job of ballasting the layout ..

As we awake from our covid torpor , I am adding details of our much loved N gauge layout "Dudley Frey" .. Odd name the layout was in fact named after one of our long standing members who has moved into that large shunting yard in the sky ..
The layout in question is a Continuous run,a 4 track mainline and station with scenery and buildings set loosely in the 1950's to 1960's. At exhibitions we operate either an 'anything goes' regime or a timeline starting with Big Four steam in the morning and working through to modern image later in the day. With 4 tracks and the fiddleyards holding 16 trains we can always keep something moving. Watch out for the archaelogical dig with underground illumination!
For a 4D experience we have added sound - listen out for the birds singing, the band playing in the bandstand or the organ recital at the church!
Currently our N gauge sections are building 2 additions N gauge layouts (names to be advised in due course) which can be added to the existing layout or act as stand alone layouts in their own right .

Photographs will be added in due course of the progression of these.

Back down at the club yesterday morning as a prospective new member said he might get down - I spent the morning painting the rails on our Luffield Junction layout .. So much to do on this and there's not been the chance to get at the layout whilst we have had open days etc to contend with.. Rob Thomas was also down and has laid one of the two new points onto the Silverbury digital layout - this will enhance the running capabilities when the layout is not in the round and round configuration at exhibitions. As things turned out the new member didnt make it - but we got alot done in any case..

Our clubhouse was open again onSunday 27 November as the Lincolnsfield site was open for their 1940's themed day . 8 ciub members were in attendance and we spent the day working on several of the clubs layouts that are under construction or in need of a little TLC .. We had the 00 test track , Dudley Frey (N gauge) and Silverbury ( Digital ) in operation too.
Once again we had a throughput of visitors throughout the day and we spent the time talking about the club and modelling techniques and asking a varied range of queries in respect of the hobby as a whole.
The nights that we tend to be down at the premises in numbers are Tuesday and Thursday evenings (normally from 07.30 onwards).
The Lincolnsfield site normally open for their 1940's on the last Sunday of the month. ( I dont think they are going to be open for December though )- I would suggest that you take a look at their web site for confirmation of their plans.

Lincolnsfield site was open as a 1940's day today from 10.00-15.00 - The club decided to open the premises to the general public - it also gave us the opportunity to run our N gauge Dudley Frey , the 00 test track plus our Digital 00 layout Silverbury and the Analogue 00 layout TedbrnSt Mary . Added to that we had work going on , on our training layout (removal of the old wiring) and a display of the buildings for the new N gauge layout which is based on St Albans Abbey Station..There was around 50 people who came for the 1940's day and the fact we had opened up on what was a pretty unpleasant day went down well with the general public. Our plan is to continue to open on the last Sunday of the month when these 1940 days are running . http://www.lincolnsfields.co.uk/

I have spent the weeks weathering rolling stock - around 80/90 vans and counting and now i am repairing locos ...
Is anybody interested in 5 inch gauge miniature railways? We are building one in Bushey. We have just completed the main loop of track about 80m long. If anyone has any 5" locos etc you are only too welcome to come and run on it our line. The minimum radius is 10ft (so not really suitable for 0-6-0) and the maximum incline is 1/50. We have a battery powered (Maxitrack Planet) loco and drivers truck.
Just a few more days till South West Herts. annual exhibition- I have hall 1 under my jurisdiction- contains Maldon Market Hill, Forrestone, Auerbach Yard, New Walmington Pier and Sankie Valley .. Plus Elaines Trains,

It was nice to see so many people that I knew from over the years, Everyone who came seemed to enjoy themselves and the layouts were well received-It was a great exhibition though it was a shame the footfall appeared to be down .The club though continues to build layouts for exhibition purposes and the test track gets used on the 00 a fair bit on a Thursday evening.. The club has been asked to help the town council in Borehamwood &Elstree celebrate the arrival of the railway to the town and 3 of the club layouts are going to that on 16th June. -its a FREE exhibition in the Small Hall at 96 Shenley Road, Borehamwood WD6 1EB
http://www.elstreeborehamwood-tc.gov.uk/

Later in the year we are also doing a club open-day in October- NOT at the Lincolnsfield site. But at another venue in Watford. Other than that club members themselves will be out and about with their layouts supporting other clubs with their exhibitions in a bid to continue to grow the hobby
