🎉 To continue our 20th year celebrations, we are looking way back to 2009 with Nataliya’s memories from her work placement with Artburst!

“Artburst was my placement host from Central School of Speech and Drama in 2009. I got very lucky because I got exactly what I asked for - a place that combines drama and art. I didn’t even know such a thing could exist, and there I was in this amazing startup organisation’s office in Hackney, making hundreds of ladybirds out of paper plates - I was in heaven.

Amy and Penny were, and still are, my inspiration for the career I have been able to have. So many of the things I have created since have been as a result of the groundbreaking way in which they navigated this work. I learnt how to make shows in minutes (Amy is a genius!), I learnt how to thread art through every part of delivery, I learnt to be an efficient storyteller, and I learnt to always lead with the ideas of children and young people.

I now run Unique Community, and while it was many years ago that I was at Artburst, the experience I had on this placement is a definitive part of the way I run my own organisation. I talk about the way you work all the time to anyone that will listen - your legacy is vast and far reaching.

Thank you so much for being the best placement a girl could ask for!”

Nataliya was one of the first students we hosted through our partnership with Royal Central London.

17 years on and we are about to host a new student starting next week, so it’s amazing to hear how Nataliya’s early work experience with Artburst still informs the work she does running Unique Community

As we celebrate Artburst's 20th year, we are looking back at some of the wonderful inividuals we have had the pleasure of working with over the years. Today we are sharing a snapshot of Rhia's time with us, who was such an important part of our Artburst journey, and now over 10years later still sings along to all the Artburst songs at home with her very own little one.

Here is a snapshot of Rhia's time with us:

"I have so many memories, it’s hard to choose one, but one of my core memories at Artburst was during the summer holidays and we were doing a funded ‘Make a Play’ in Newham. A young boy, 12, was dragged along to accompany his sister, and probably to help his mum with childcare for the week. Morning of day one he was unengaged and too ‘cool’ for this kid stuff. By the last day, he was the main character, centre stage, fully immersed in the play and giving the performance of his life. Artburst has a wonderful way of engaging children back with their imagination, whatever age, and supporting them discover their creative side."

Thank you, Rhia, for all the hard work, dedication and amazing energy you brought to Artburst!

As our celebrations continue, we are looking back at some of the amazing individuals who have grown alongside us. Today, we’re sharing a beautiful reflection from Ola (Aleksandra), who joined the Artburst family back in 2018! 🎨🎭

“Artburst was such an important part of my story in London... I started in 2018 when I met you in the London Transport Museum and you kindly offered me facilitating Make and Paint sessions in Stoke Newington. During the next two years I took part in many incredible projects, worked with some fantastic primary schools in London and joined Artburst during family events across the city.

It was such a special time that allowed me to come out of my shell and discover myself in a new city. I grew in confidence and understood that working with children is my passion. Now, almost 8 years later I still thank everyone who I met on my path in Artburst for giving me all the opportunities and for forever being able to sing and dance to the “Moving Toys”.” 🎶🧸

Thank you, Ola, for bringing so much magic, passion, and pirate energy to our team! 🏴‍☠️❤️

A year of creativity and exploration at The Village School! 🎨✨

For the whole school year, the Artburst team has had the absolute privilege of running creative workshops with the wonderful pupils at The Village School. Working with children who have complex learning needs and disabilities reminds us every single day why accessible, multi-sensory art matters. 🌈

From tactile, textured masterpieces inspired by Van Gogh, to bold, geometric explorations of color and shape in the style of Mondrian, these brilliant artists have poured so much joy into their work. 🌻📐

We are incredibly proud of everything they’ve created, and we are absolutely delighted to share that we will be returning to The Village School next year for even more creative adventures! 🥳

A massive thank you to the staff, families, and, most importantly, the talented artists who made this year so unforgettable. 💙
