Guest Artist: Clare Filskow
Today we’re delighted to introduce Clare Filskow, a printmaker whose striking lino prints are inspired by the landscapes and places surrounding her home on the edge of Ashdown Forest.
And for those of you who love beautiful food-inspired prints… Clare has brought some particularly gorgeous pieces to our cafe area 🍋🍰🌿
And there’s a wonderful piece for all you Charleston House lovers — and, as a self-confessed Charleston fan, that one is definitely a favourite of mine!
Clare began her printmaking journey in 2018 and, entirely self-taught, has developed a distinctive style by transforming her own photography into original, limited-edition lino prints. Her work celebrates both the beauty of the local landscape and the craftsmanship of traditional printmaking.
Drawn to the balance of precision and spontaneity that lino printing offers, Clare embraces every stage of the process — from the careful carving of the block to layering inks and those occasional happy accidents that can make a print really sing.
Many of Clare’s works are created using reduction printmaking, where the lino block is gradually carved away between each layer of colour. By the time the final print is complete, much of the original block has disappeared, meaning the edition is genuinely limited and can never be recreated.
So if you’re a fan of lino printing, beautiful colour, food, landscape — or simply a bit of Charleston-inspired loveliness — do pop in and have a look.
And don’t forget on Saturday 12 September, 2–4pm. you can come and browse the art, enjoy some of our delicious refreshments and meet some of the other guest artists in a relaxing setting.
All artwork is available to buy, with a small commission from sales helping us to continue providing our community Arts for Wellbeing sessions.
