Mark your calendars! We are hosting a fundraiser, "The Babes of Bent and Bongs", on Saturday 14th November. Thank you to Heritage With A Twist for delivering this event in support of Tyldesley Heritage Centre.

Come along to discover some of the powerful and interesting women of Atherton and Tyldesley, enjoy some free tea/coffee and biscuits, and try your luck in our raffle. You can ever nominate your own Bongs Babe for us to feature on our big screen. (Yes, it can even be your mum or granny!)

For this one day only, we will also be sharing previously unseen items from our archives that relate to Tyldesley women.

When: Saturday 14th November, 2-4pm (Family-friendly, age 9+), and 7-9pm
Cost: £5 Adults / £1 Children

All proceeds go towards our running and development costs.

Introducing 'The Archive Edit', five books picked from our archives for you to browse in the Heritage Centre. We will change the selection each month.

Appropriately for Halloween, this month's selection includes Ghosts of Leigh. As it is Tyldesley Swimming & Water Polo Club's 150th anniversary this year, we have also chosen the programme from their 100th anniversary celebration.

We are making preparations for our 'Romans are Coming' event for children. It should be fun, and something to entertain them during half-term week.

Tickets are available from the Heritage Centre during our normal opening hours (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, 2pm to 4pm; Wednesday and Friday 10am to 12 noon). Also on the door on the day, subject to capacity. Cash only.

Additional free tours of our unique underground miners' training gallery are now available!

During the recent heritage open days, nearly 90 people took the tour. We realise there is a big demand to see this! Having spoken to our volunteer guides, we now hope to run free tours once a month.

The next tour date is Sunday, 1 November. 20 minute tours will be available from 1pm to 3.30pm. No need to pre-book. Children must be 5 or over and accompanied underground by an adult.

The Heritage Gallery will be open as usual from 2pm to 4pm, so you can see this before or after your tour.

We were delighted to be visited yesterday by the daughter and grandson of Reg Buller. Reg was for many years the Tyldesley Royal British Legion branch parade marshall, organising and leading Tyldesley's annual Remembrance Day parade.

The family shared some photos of Reg, which we will be including in a special Remembrance display on our big screen at the Heritage Centre.

We would love to include other Tyldesley men and women who served. If you have a photo of a family member you would like to be included, please send it to us, together with the person's name and what they did. You can either direct message us here, or email [email protected].

Are you a fan of Halloween? Why not come to the Heritage Centre to take a look at our authentic, chilling witches' marks? They date from 1647 and were found right here in Tyldesley.

You can also discover the real but mysterious story of the Tyldesley witch, Edmund Hartley.

Our friendly cartoon ghost, Lampy, will be hiding around the gallery as usual. Can your little ones spot him? You can also buy some ghostly sweets during your visit—officially recommended by Lampy himself!

The Co-op vehicles are shown parked outside their depot in Primrose Street North. The Co-op shop in the other photo was on the corner of Elliott Street and Johnson Street.

The Romans are Coming to Tyldesley!

Looking for the perfect way to keep the kids entertained during October half-term? Bring them along to the Tyldesley Heritage Centre for a hands-on Roman Adventure! Inspired by the real Roman coins and brooches found right here in Tyldesley, as well as our local Roman road, we are bringing history to life with this fun event.

How to book:
Secure your spot early by popping into the Heritage Centre to purchase tickets, or pay on the door on the day (subject to capacity).
