We need a volunteer for Tuesday afternoons, 2pm to 4pm.

We are looking for someone to join our fantastic team of local volunteers, meeting and greeting visitors and tidying the Centre.

You will meet new people and build friendships, while adding real value for the local community.

Now that it's August and peak holiday season, we are diving into our archives to share this gem of a photo from the 1950s. Take a look at these two Tyldesley ladies enjoying their Wakes week holiday in Blackpool.

Wakes weeks were the highlight of the summer for local factory and mill workers, bringing rest, laughter, and often trips to the coast. This photo perfectly captures that joyful holiday spirit.

Today, we want to say thank you to some more of our incredible volunteers. Whether you are helping out inside the Centre, doing research, planning events, or getting stuck in out in the yard, please know this: without your hard work and dedication, we simply couldn't open our doors.

We also want to shine a spotlight on the directors of the Leigh, Atherton & Tyldesley Heritage Group. A lot of people don't realise that they are volunteers too! It is their vision and commitment that secured the lease and drives the ongoing restoration of the Technical School building from which we operate.

Finally, we hold a special place in our hearts for the late Iain Hodcroft. Iain campaigned tirelessly for many years to bring a heritage centre to Tyldesley. This is why we call it the Hodcroft Gallery.

To everyone who gives their time and skills to this project—thank you.

We had a very important little visitor today. She was our very first youngster to visit the Heritage Centre. She followed the story of Lampy the cartoon ghost that was introducing her to Tyldesley's history, then coloured in drawings that she could take home. She tried on every historical costume in the dressing up corner and certainly didn't take any notice of the signage saying 'Children should be seen and not heard' but delighted us all with her singing. Sienna left us with a very important message that can be placed in another time capsule for someone to find in another one hundred years.

Thank you Sienna, it was a delight to be entertained by your energetic spirit. Come again on your next trip from Milnrow 🥰

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Tyldesley Swimming & Water Polo Club. At a meeting of Tyldesley Historical Society tonight Diane donated some Club memorabilia to the Heritage Centre. We will look after it for future generations. It joins this poster from 1950, which is on display at the Centre now.

We are so grateful for everything the Tyldesley community is doing to support our Heritage Centre project.

Today, Ian and Haydn from For Tyldesley dropped off a fantastic donation: some wheeled display stands they no longer need. These are ideal for our upcoming special exhibitions, which we aim to run alongside our permanent displays.

To get these special exhibitions up and running, we are looking for a small display cabinet. (No taller that 130cms). Ideally, it should either be on wheels or be suitable for us to attach wheels to it.

If you or someone you know would be prepared to donate or lend to the project, please DM us.
