Take a walk in our shoes - a new exhibition at Shoemakers Museum showcasing the work of three local artists.

The exhibition brings together drawing, photography and personal narrative to explore how identity is shaped by place, community, history and by the journeys we take.

Plus free arts workshops!
Every Wednesday morning - Scratch the Surface art workshop run by one of the artists.
Photo collage workshops on a selection of dates.

The tables are out with plenty of shady spots to choose for al fresco dining at Shoemakers Cafe. Light lunches, locally made produce and delicious homemade cakes. and ice-cream. The ice machine is on and iced coffees are a perfect way to relax and enjoy the sunshine in style.
The museum galleries are a constant temperature so a lovely space to cool off too.

"That this House congratulates the Shoemakers Museum in Street on being shortlisted for Permanent Exhibition of the Year at the 2026 Museum and Heritage Awards for its Place, People and Purpose exhibition; recognises the importance of the Shoemakers Museum in preserving and celebrating the rich history of shoemaking in the town, with their exhibition conveying the story of Clarks from its Quaker origins to its global influence through four galleries dedicated to the people, craft and history behind shoemaking in the area; acknowledges the important role the museum plays in attracting visitors and supporting tourism in Street; and commends all those involved in the Shoemakers Project Team in the museum for this achievement, which is a source of great pride for the local community."

Although we didn't win this year we were delighted to a finalist among some superb museums including nationals.

Music lovers. Join us on Wed 27 May for a day of Jamaican Music. 🇯🇲 ♯🕺🏾

Listen, Dance, Sing, Taste, and enjoy. Mento, Blues, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, DJ Toasts and dub.

More than a music session, this is also a deep dive into the songs and tunes, the singers and instrumentalists, that shaped tracks that conquered the musical world from the West-Indian island of Jamaica.

Dave will be playing throughout the day on Wednesday 27 May from 10.30am to 4pm. Join us for two special 75-minute sessions, starting at 11am and 2.30pm, when Dave will talk about-or DJ talk over- the tunes he spins.

These musical talks are family friendly and suitable for all ages including children – each talk will last for 75 minutes and are free for annual pass holders.

Jamrock Caribbean Catering will be here serving up some tasty Caribbean cuisine from 11am.

Pull up a chair, or tune in and sashay away with the music! Spaces are limited at each talk, so come early if you want to secure a seat.

Some of the Shoemakers' Project Team at the 2026 Museum and Heritage Awards. Shoemakers Museum has been shortlisted for Permanent Exhibition of the Year. Awards ceremony happening now. With some excellent projects shortlisted we are in prestigious company. A real accolade for our Somerset Museum.
