That's the thinking behind Park Designs. I'm Si Homfray, an artist and designer living in Hathersage in the Peak District, creating colourful artwork and thoughtful products inspired by our great outdoors.

I want to bring a bit of the countryside into everyday life, celebrate the beauty of our National Parks and create things that make people smile.

MARKETING ASSISTANT WANTED

Help us make Park Designs even more visible, interesting & colourful!
Park Designs is looking for a creative, enthusiastic Marketing Assistant to work directly with artist and founder Si Homfray.

Peak District and Sheffield-based creative business, gallery and design studio, inspired by art, nature, the outdoors, the Peak District, National Parks, kindness and wellbeing. We’re looking for someone who can help turn all the ideas, artwork, stories, exhibitions and products happening at Park Designs into great marketing and engaging content.

This is initially a part-time role of around 8–12 hours a week, initially for a 3-month trial, with some time ideally spent in our Sheffield gallery.

You’ll be involved in social media, content creation, photography, website and Shopify updates, email marketing, Google Ads, SEO, exhibitions, events, PR and creative campaigns. You’ll work closely with Si, helping take ideas from “I've got an idea…” through to actually making them happen!

We’re not looking for someone who ticks every box. Creativity, enthusiasm, organisation, initiative and a willingness to get stuck in are more important. Experience with social media, digital marketing, Shopify, Canva/Adobe, photography, video, SEO or Google Ads would be a bonus.

Humbling joy. A new kind of light in the Lakes.

Lake District — Scafell Pike

— I was fortunate enough to get two days off together this weekend for a quick run up .
I knew it was the highest summit in England. I knew it was one of the Three Peaks of Great Britain. What I didn’t quite appreciate was just how incredibly busy our visitor hotspots have become.
Thousands of people had descended with the same ambition, parking overnight in the Wasdale Head car park. The evening became an all-night throng of noise and unnecessary light, with people streaming up the path to top out in the darkness on one of our greatest natural treasures.
At the risk of sounding even more like an old bloke, there are positives…
Over the last 50 years, I’ve been wandering around the mountains of the world, and it is amazing to see the crescendo of people who now share my passion. But while it’s wonderful that so many people are discovering the mountains, it’s worrying how many might be missing the point a little.
Because, to my mind, the real prize is not simply reaching the summit. It’s the extraordinary sense of wellbeing that comes from being immersed in places like this.
And on that front, the Lake District is pretty extraordinary — one of the very best places I know to get that fix.

Every adventure begins with a first step. Rather than opening this new chapter with a promotion, sale or commercial fanfare, we’ve decided to begin with something a little different.

Something a little more Si.

It All Begins With Kindness

Our brand-new participatory exhibition invites everyone to help create a growing piece of artwork celebrating something we believe is a pretty good place to start:

Kindness.

The spirit of being kind, decent and considerate feels like exactly where this next phase should begin.

It’s quirky, perhaps, but it’s also our way of putting a flag in the ground and saying that we want to be in the business of being decent traders first — treating everyone with the respect, consideration and kindness we would hope to receive ourselves.

Treat others as you would wish to be treated.

It seems like a pretty good rule for life, business and just about everything else.

A new exhibition. A new beginning.

The work may not be particularly Peak Districty or National Parky — that comes next! — but it has given us the opportunity to create the gallery space, displays and boards I’ve been itching to make for a very long time.

And now it’s ready.

We’d love you to be part of it

Everyone who visits is invited to write a few kind words on the back of one of our Feathers of Kindness postcards.

Write a kind thought. Record a kind deed. Say something lovely about someone. Or simply leave a few words you think the world could do with hearing.

We’ll add every feather to the growing artwork in our gallery window.

We’d love to see how many contributions we can gather. If enough start arriving from Peak District villages, we may even need a carrier pigeon… or perhaps a taxi service to bring the sack loads of kindness into Sheffield!

Linda was the lucky winner of our Christmas 2025 Competition, taking home the fabulous £250 prize to spend on whatever she chose.

I’m already looking forward to creating this year’s competition and I hope as many of you as possible join in again. It’s always such a joy seeing the enthusiasm, creativity and kindness that comes back from this wonderful community.

Sharing the Park Designs love of our National Parks with so many amazing customers, so many smiles, and so much warmth is a real privilege.

I genuinely feel like the luckiest person running this little business — thank you all for being part of the journey.

Royal Academy - an uplifting, inspiring day at the RA Summer Exhibition

I finally made it to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition a few weeks ago—a visit I'd wanted to make for years—and it was everything I'd hoped it would be.

Seeing such an extraordinary breadth of talent was both inspiring and humbling. The sheer variety of styles, techniques, media and scale creates an exhilarating creative energy that leaves your head spinning in the best possible way.

One of my biggest takeaways from the day, aside from developing a strong desire to paint frescoes after seeing the beautiful examples featured in the restaurant, was the realisation that it's time to start submitting my own work again. It's something I'd been encouraging myself to do for years, but now that we're settled into our new premises, I no longer have any excuses.

The creative ideas are flowing once more, and I'm excited to see where they lead.
