All aboard the Santa Express! 🎅🚂

Step aboard our heritage steam train for a magical hour-long return journey between Pickering and Levisham. Santa’s cheeky elves will welcome you on board, before Santa comes to find every child with a gingerbread man plush toy and a festive book to take home.

New for this year, our Relaxed Santa Express on 28 November at 15:00 is for families who’d benefit from a calmer visit:

⭐ Fewer guests on board, with softer sound and lighting and no surprises
⭐ Allocated seats, so you can arrive whenever suits you
⭐ A quiet waiting area in the Visitor Centre before boarding
⭐ A pre-visit email, so you can talk the day through together

Every child still meets Santa and receives a gift.

We’ve held our 2025 prices, from £29.50 per person.

Service Update: Sir Nigel Gresley

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, A4 Pacific No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley will not be running today or tomorrow.

Taking her place on today's services will be No. 926 Repton, proudly sporting the ‘Cunarder’ headboard.

The Cunarder was a named British Railways boat train service introduced in 1952, connecting London and Southampton with Cunard ocean liners at Southampton Docks. A nod to a little piece of railway history.

We apologise for any disappointment and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you aboard for a great day out on the railway!

Just one week to go until October half term, and spooky season is arriving at the NYMR! 🎃

Station Trick or Treat runs 24 to 28 October and 31 October to 1 November, with Kids Go Free on standard services (one free child ticket per fare paying adult) and our School Holiday Savings Rate in place on running days.

Dress up in your best Halloween costume and head to the shop at Pickering, Goathland or Grosmont, say “Trick or Treat” and receive a free chocolate treat, subject to availability. Look out for spooky selfie frames, warm up with a hot chocolate and Halloween biscuit in our tea rooms, and join our spooky Tiny Engine Tuesday on 27 October or Station Stay and Play on 28 October.

We know the hustle and bustle of a busy festive day out isn't for everyone, so we've created a calmer Santa Express visit for families who would benefit from a quieter experience.

🎄 Fewer guests on board
🎄 Softer sound and lighting, with no surprises
🎄 Every child meets Santa and receives a Gingerbread Man themed gift
🎄 Seats are allocated, so arrive at whatever time suits your family. Just be on the platform by 14:50
🎄 The Visitor Centre on Platform 2 is set aside as a quiet waiting area before boarding

No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is back at the NYMR from 17 to 20 October, courtesy of the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust, as we celebrate 150 years since the birth of visionary engineer Sir Nigel Gresley.

Choose a morning or afternoon pre-booked return journey between Pickering and Grosmont, with allocated seats, as this streamlined A4 Pacific storms across the North York Moors National Park.

Adult returns are £35 and child returns £17.50, with NYMR Members saving £5 per adult ticket. Make it extra special with our Souvenir & Snacks Package, or add a Sharing Treat Bag to collect from Pickering Tea Room before you travel.
