It's this week! Our very last summer concert in the courtyard... and this time, August 26th, we are delighted to welcome both Blue Kites AND Acoustic Buddies to the museum.

Blue Kites are Lynn Sunley and Phil Friend, playing a mix of self-penned songs and covers.

Expect elements of folk, jazz, country, bluegrass, classical and psychedelia with blended vocal & instrumental harmony.

Acoustic Buddies, are local men Ian Porritt and Trevor Moss.

Expect mellow male voices accompanied by acoustic guitars. Presenting hits from the 50s onwards, there'll be classic numbers from British and American pop and country.

A big thanks to Maddy and the team at Pickering Library for hosting some of our objects again. We're told our whaling display is proving very popular. Did you know, whaling played an important role in our town's history - perhaps not surprising given our close proximity to the coast?

Have you been in to see it?

Look how much fun we had last time Sweet Soul 7 joined us!

Our craft days are always so special - are you coming on Monday? (10 Aug).

We share the very special history of a range of crafts, with crafters giving demonstrations of their incredible skills around the museum. So many of these crafts would have been so important to the people of rural North Yorkshire!

Our volunteers are such a friendly bunch - we can guarantee they'll make you very welcome!

A lovely image of harvest time from the very brilliant Sydney Smith, part of the collection at the museum. But how typical was it of this time of year?

Sydney often asked his subjects to 'pose' in natural looking moments because photography was a little slower back then!

He was well known for leaping off his bicycle when something caught his eye on his journeys across Ryedale. He often recorded the scenes he saw, even if he had to ask his subjects to 'do it again' for the camera!

This Wednesday (29 July), we'll be welcoming the brilliant Flashback Brass to the museum for our Courtyard Concert - doors open from 6pm, music from 7.15pm.

Seven local brass musicians will play popular tunes from the 60s to 80s - in a fresh, brassy, upbeat way. Our vintage pub will be open, the sun will be shining, and we'll all have a thoroughly lovely night - so what are you waiting for?

Grab your tickets from the museum (cash or card), or from Television House (cash only) .

Make sure you come and say hi on Saturday - we'll have a stall full of practically perfect, pre-loved items for sale at the market! We'll be by the beck, in a marquee that the very lovely Pickering Town Community Interest Company is lending us (big thanks!).

Activities like this are really important fundraisers for us as a charity and museum, caring for Pickering's stories and history. A massive THANK YOU if you've donated items to us for this sale!

We hope to see lots of your there!
