Just look at these gorgeous creations from today’s Woodland Wonders Kinusaiga workshop! 🦉🍄🦔🐇

There’s something so wonderfully relaxing about Kinusaiga, the Japanese art of creating beautiful pictures using little pieces of fabric, carefully tucked into a design. No sewing, no glue, just lots of lovely fabrics, a little patience and the chance to completely switch off for a few hours.

It’s such a mindful craft, and also a surprisingly addictive one! Once you’ve made your first piece, you’ll almost certainly be thinking about what to make next. 🥰

We have two more Kinusaiga workshops coming up in November:
🍂 Sunday 1st November
🍂 Saturday 7th November

Unlike today’s woodland-themed session, these workshops are completely free choice, so you can create a design that really appeals to you. We’ll provide all the materials, including a gorgeous selection of fabrics, and guide you through the whole process.

There are just a couple of spaces remaining on each date, so if you fancy discovering your next creative obsession, head over to our website to book!

🎨 ARTIST OF THE WEEK | Iona Moran 🎨

A little burst of colour to brighten your day! 🌸
This week, we’re delighted to be showcasing the beautiful, vibrant artwork of Iona Moran in our Artist of the Week window.

Inspired by nature, people and her own life experiences, Iona creates expressive paintings that are full of colour, emotion and personality.

From her colourful childhood and time spent soaking up Brighton’s bohemian atmosphere to her career in nursing, Iona’s experiences have shaped the way she sees the world and expresses herself through paint.

Her artwork is a wonderful celebration of life, love and the little moments that make it special.

Pop along to Swan Street and take a look at Iona’s gorgeous collection in our window. Even better, come inside and discover more lovely things made by our talented local artists and makers!

A few new faces have joined us this month, and we’re very happy to have them!

📷 Amanda Bell has brought in her incredible wildlife and nature photography, capturing some beautiful moments from the natural world. Amanda Bell

🌿 Abi joins us with her gorgeous botanical artwork, full of delicate details and lovely, nature-inspired subjects.

🧼 And we’re also delighted to welcome Caroline from Meon Soap. Alongside her handmade soaps, we’re now stocking her shampoo and conditioner bars too. Caroline Burton

Three very different makers, but all creating beautiful things locally, which is exactly what we love filling the gallery with.

🐅 Meet our October Guest Artist, Susi Gardner! Susi Gardner

This month we’re welcoming Hampshire-based wildlife artist Susi Gardner to our Guest Artist Wall.

Susi paints exclusively in oils, building up layer upon layer to capture the character, expression and incredible detail of the animals she paints. From tigers and orangutans to British wildlife, her love of the natural world is at the heart of her work.

And there’s another lovely story behind Susi’s art. After taking a 20-year break from painting, she rediscovered her creativity during lockdown and has since gone on to receive a growing number of awards and recognitions for her wildlife paintings. In 2025, her painting ‘Tiger Beauty’ won the Chairperson’s Award at the Association of Animal Artists Autumn Exhibition.

Conservation is hugely important to Susi too, with 20% of her profits donated to wildlife conservation charities. 🐘🌿

We’re delighted to have a selection of Susi’s work with us throughout October. Pop in and have a proper look at them in person, the detail in her paintings really is something special.

Go for coffee. Have dinner. Go for a walk. Book something you’ve never tried before. Spend a couple of hours crafting something slightly wonky together.

It doesn’t really matter what you do. Just put the date in the diary.

Autumn crafting season is VERY much here. 🍂

And if you’ve been thinking you’d quite like to spend a few hours making something, we’ve got three particularly lovely excuses this week...

🎃 Thursday evening: needle felt your own wonderfully characterful pumpkin
🍂 Saturday morning: use a real leaf to create a mould, then turn all that beautiful detail into your own silver clay pendant
🎨 Saturday afternoon: spend a relaxing afternoon with watercolours, creating a gorgeous autumn leaf collage

Three completely different workshops, all with that lovely cosy autumn feeling. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be flowing, all your materials are provided, and you’ll go home with something you’ve made yourself. ❤️

I made myself a little promise recently.

I spend so much of my time inside Sage and Salt Studio that there are days when I arrive early in the morning, work all day, get back in the car and realise I’ve barely been outside.

So I’ve decided that, whenever I possibly can, I’m going to get out for a walk.

Not for long. Not necessarily with anywhere to go. Just to get outside, enjoy the weather, enjoy the season (especially now we’re heading into my absolute favourite 🍂) and actually enjoy the town I get to work in.

And this week, these are some of the things I’ve noticed along the way.

Blue skies over Petersfield. Flowers in the Physic Garden. Lovely things in shop windows. A fabric shop that made me want to buy everything. A trip to the pond. Lunch with my mum. And possibly the most cheerful orange Jellycat I’ve ever seen. 😂

It turns out there’s rather a lot to see when you actually leave the shop.

So I think this might become a little Sunday thing.
