We are now one week into John Darnell’s beautiful window exhibition here at Sage and Salt Studio, which means there is now just ONE WEEK left to see it before it finishes on the morning of Friday 5th June 📸

If you haven’t stopped by yet, it really is well worth seeing. John’s photography is absolutely stunning, with every piece drawing you into the atmosphere, light and emotion of the landscape.

I think my personal favourite has to be the very first piece featured in this reel. It instantly reminded me of our trip to Scotland and hiking through the Highlands. There’s something so peaceful and dramatic about it all at once.

The question is… which piece would you be taking home? 👀

This week’s Maker Monday introduces the wonderfully talented ceramicist Catherine Claasen.

Catherine creates beautifully tactile ceramics inspired by textures, forms, and patterns found in the natural world. Combining wheel throwing with handbuilding techniques, her work ranges from sculptural forms to functional pieces, each one evolving through experimentation, testing, and refinement.

After years spent teaching, Catherine now works as an artist educator alongside developing her own ceramic practice from her home studio. Her pottery journey began in 2021 and has continued to grow through courses, exhibitions, and a deep love of learning and exploring what clay can do.

Overnight, one of the large windows at Sage and Salt Studio was shattered.

We have reported this to the police and are now trying to understand what happened. As the festival was taking place in town yesterday, we are wondering whether anyone may have seen or heard anything in the area overnight.

If you were nearby and noticed anything unusual, or perhaps have CCTV, dashcam footage or any information that could help, please send us a private message.

As a small independent business in Petersfield town centre, situations like this are incredibly upsetting, and we would really appreciate the community’s support.

Meet our new Artist of the Week, John Darnell 📸

For the next fortnight, our window at Sage and Salt Studio will showcase a beautiful collection of photography by John, whose lifelong passion for image-making has spanned an extraordinary career.

John began working professionally in photography in 1959, before moving into television where he spent more than 40 years as a TV camera operator and later TV Director. Throughout it all, photography remained a constant passion.

Now retired from television, John dedicates more time to creating striking photographic works, personally printing every image and framing his larger pieces behind specialist AR70 glass for enhanced clarity and reduced reflection.

For John, photography is simply another way of making pictures.

“A picture is something you like (or you don’t) and it can give pleasure and evoke feelings in many ways however it is created.”

His exhibition, *Images from Landscape*, explores those fleeting moments where light, observation and imagination come together to create something special.

“It begins with the light and the editing eye… but often the creative juices begin to see more in a particular image and how that moment begins to play on the imagination.”

Pop by over the next two weeks to discover John’s fascinating work in our window and see where the light leads you.
