The Carpow Logboat is once again on display. She now has a specially designed protective case built around her, which will help safeguard the logboat and improve access for essential overhead maintenance work.

🚧 You may notice the Carpow Logboat is temporarily hidden from view. She has been fully wrapped and cushioned while a specially designed protective case is constructed around her. The new case will help safeguard the logboat and improve access for essential maintenance work overhead. She'll be back on display once the work is finished.

ℹ️ Frederick Douglass was an African American abolitionist. Born into slavery in Maryland, USA, in 1818, he escaped from slavery in 1838 and went on to become one of the most influential voices for justice and equality of the 19th Century. An acclaimed writer, speaker and reformer, he travelled extensively across the United States and Europe, campaigning against slavery and advocating for social change.

🚨 OPENING TODAY! 🚨

Our exhibition, 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫, opens at 10am today!

The exhibition features Turner Prize-nominated British artist Isaac Julien CBE RA's powerful film-based artwork, Lessons of the Hour – Frederick Douglass (2019), a meditation on Frederick Douglass's life, legacy, and time in Scotland.

Perth Museum will be the first venue on this new ARTIST ROOMS tour and the only stop in Scotland. Unique to Perth, the artwork will be contextualised in a wider exploration of Perthshire's connections to slavery and to Frederick Douglass himself.
