Opening today at the 67 York street Gallery, Marylebone: ‘OVER THE EDGE’

An exhibition of paintings by Nici Bungey

15th - 18th October 2026

This exhibition, Over the Edge, showcases Nick’s work primarily from the last decade and is a successor to the exhibition Approaching the Edge, held at the Soho Revue Gallery in London in 2016. Since that time, Nici has reached the final of both the former Jerwood Prize and the John Moores Painting Prize, notable previous winners of the latter including Peter Doig, David Hockney and Sir Peter Blake. She has also regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the London Art Fair.

Nici Bungey is an artist with a long career creating mainly abstract artworks. She studied at the Basel School of Design, Graphic and Media Design at the University of the Arts London, and lastly completed a Master’s in Textile Design at Wi******er School of Art.

🌼Today is the last day to visit ‘Floral Stories’ 🌼featuring:

Anne Macintyre photographs British flowers, mostly homegrown at her allotment in St Albans, creating beautiful images that have won awards and been exhibited by the RHS at the Saatchi Gallery.

“I Stop And There You Are”

As promised, here is my largest painting to date: “I Stop And There You Are”. A whopping (for me) 70cm x 100cm of juicy colour and texture. I have varnished it since taking this video and the colours sing and pop even more.

Standing on the slopes of Slieve Foye in the Cooley Peninsula, letting glorious nature sweep over me, closing my eyes and remembering my wonderful mum are what I am trying to convey in this piece. There is a sense of joyful movement; the colours are heightened and everything is moving and heading towards the little path in the distance. Where does it lead to? Who is around the corner? The answers are with the viewer.

I always find myself looking up at the sky, searching the clouds, looking for my mum and sometimes I see her. The sky feels even bigger here on the mountain slopes, and I have tried to show this sense of being enveloped by it and the landscape by painting it in all the corners.
