Introducing our 2026/27 Haworth Trust awardees 🎉

We’re delighted to welcome Gwen SenHui Chen, Liz Llewelyn and Rio Darwin as this year’s Haworth Trust artists at Paradise Works.

Over the next year, each artist will receive a free studio at Paradise Works, a materials budget and mentoring and support to develop their practice, culminating in a group exhibition in 2027.

The Haworth Trust Scholarships are delivered in collaboration with The Haworth Trust.



Gwen SenHui Chen has a multidisciplinary practice spanning immersive installations and situational works, bringing together tactile sculpture, found objects, ceramics, textiles, drawing, sound and video.

Centred around lived experience, Gwen creates layered environments that invite subjective engagement and blur the boundaries between art and everyday life.

Liz Llewelyn works primarily across sculpture, woodwork and photography, creating within and through natural environments and bringing the outside in.

Finding solace and regulation in nature, their practice encourages audiences to slow down, listen to the trees and press themselves against the stones.

Rio Darwin is a visual artist based in the North West who pushes the boundaries of clay as a sculptural medium.

Rooted in the shifting landscapes of the Holderness Coast, Rio’s work explores what it means to exist upon an ever-changing landscape, creating sculptures that hold the tension between vulnerability and resilience.

Paradise Works Artist Updates 💫

A round-up of what some of our artists have been up to:

Hilary Jack Hilary Jack is exhibiting a new edition of her neon work No Borders in Victory Over the Sun: Encounters with Light at The Light, Durham.

Curated by Natasha Howes, the exhibition brings together artists including Olafur Eliasson, Tracey Emin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Steve McQueen, Katie Paterson and David Shrigley.

Emma Illingworth Emma Illingworth is taking part in a COMPASS Residency Artist Talk alongside Margaret O’Brien, Kimberley Foster and Jane Scobie, sharing work and experiences from their residencies at Cromer Artspace and Rogue Artist Studios.

Gwen Evans has been shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2026!

Her work will be shown alongside the other shortlisted artists at Yorkshire Artspace’s Persistence Works Gallery in Sheffield.

A new artist-to-artist conversation between Elliot Flanagan elliott flanagan and poet and writer Andrew McMillan Andrew McMillan has been published by Corridor8.

You can never really return home explores Elliott’s return to Burnley, touching on memory, place, class representation and the stereotypes experienced by Northern post-industrial communities.

Maisie Pritchard Maisie Pritchard presents Walk in My Shoes at Salford Museum & Art Gallery Salford Museum & Art Gallery as part of Recoverist Month Portraits of Recovery.

Developed with a group of Recoverists, the collaborative project explores walking, making and recovery, bringing together an archive of the process alongside Maisie’s participatory work Put Your Foot Down II.

A look back at the opening of Aftercrop, Maya Rose Edwards’ solo exhibition at Paradise Works.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the PV, it was a fab evening.

Aftercrop brings together sculptural works exploring changing rural landscapes, traditions and communities, using found objects, salvaged materials and carefully assembled forms.

If you haven’t made it down yet, the exhibition continues until 4 October.

Applications are now open for the 2026/27 Haworth Trust Scholarships at Paradise Works!

Now in its fifth year, the programme supports contemporary visual artists to develop ambitious new work and build sustainable careers in Greater Manchester.

Three artists will each receive:
• A free studio at Paradise Works for one year
• A materials budget
• Mentoring and support throughout the year
• The opportunity to take part in a group exhibition at Paradise Works

Two scholarships are available for artists within three years of graduating, alongside one for an early to mid-career artist with 3–7 years of professional practice post-graduation.

We’re particularly interested in artists whose work has a strong relationship to painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and/or music.

The scholarships will run from November 2026-November 2027.

Applications close Sunday 6 September at midnight.

EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT: AFTERCROP 🌾

We’re excited to announce Aftercrop, a new solo exhibition by Maya Rose Edwards, opening at Paradise Works this August. maya

Aftercrop is a new installation of sculptural works exploring how rural landscapes, traditions and communities are changing in the face of ecological crisis, globalisation and rapid commodification. Through found objects, salvaged materials and carefully assembled forms, Maya looks beyond the familiar image of the British countryside idyll to uncover the remnants of histories, labour and cultures in decline. Aftercrop reflects on what is lost as places, knowledge and ways of living disappear while asking what might still be carried forward, reimagined and rebuilt for the future.

Aftercrop invites us to look again at the landscapes we think we know.
