'Spread out over three floors of a former mill, the building feels like a perfect repurposing for an arts community. Plasterboard forms the internal walls of variously sized studios, meaning the building is a bit of a maze to someone who doesn’t know their way around, but a lack of signposting or direction feels authentic to the studios and decisively non-commercial. Inside each studio viewers can be immersed in the artist’s world: their current work, influences and processes.'

➡️ 4 years ago in a galaxy far far away, before a plague, cost of living crisis and literal alien invasion, we started a little project to platform graduate artists called MADE IT, which debuted on the spaceship Paradise Works in 2019 🫡

➡️ Since then, we’ve kept platforming graduate artists and providing them with a crucial springboard opportunity through exhibitions and further opportunities across the region and nationally.

➡️ They say you’re only as good as the company you keep, and we’re in excellent company. The proof is in the pudding, and we’re proud to show off a small handful of our alumni at Paradise Works this week 💥

Exhibition continues: Thursday-Sunday 12-5pm until 15th October

Hello! My name is Bridget Coderc, and I am a video artist fully immersed in the mystical universe of psychedelic video art. With my library of my family's video archives and 80s/90s Eastern European street and modern dance footage, I create displays of colourful imagery. I adore techno, trance, and I love to dance. Mixing visuals to the fast rhythms is super fun. Oh, and I recently came back to writing poetry again. Come meet me and my colourful world and experience an experimental installation on floor 2 during our upcoming Open Studios. Plus, I'll treat you to a sneak peek of the mesmerizing patterns I'm currently layering behind the scenes.

Takeover

Within Freya Wysocki's practice, textiles and sculpture come together to construct energetic, q***r realities, finding connection through playful and tender worlds. Joy emanates from bendy, genderless figures, fostering connection with the viewer through soft, silly, sensual tactility. Through the use of tufting, banner making and sculpture, Freya imagines their own q***r escapist utopias. Their work is a snapshot of maximalist imaginaries, richly populated by figures captured in limbo between the fantastical and the grotesque, which emerge from the unspoken underbelly of the mundane to laugh at the state of the world. Some of Freya’s recent commissions include Tate Collective, A Modest Show, and the exhibition “Belonging” at HOME’s Granada Foundation Gallery.

Freya is also involved in the artist collective alongside Jenny Hanns and Charlotte Simmons. Together, they create films, participatory installations and sculptures which employ tongue-in-cheek humour to critique the social and political issues we face. Through the disruption of public space and bringing art outside of commercial galleries, TV Babies aim to divert from their profit-oriented nature and invite a more collaborative and community-focused approach.

Hey! I'm Nick Vorstermans, I go by Studio Critical:. My practice is wood based, using urban trees that have been cut down by the council or storm felled to create tactile objects that are beautiful and useful. My furniture is made using sustainably sourced UK timbers and time tested methods. Both nature and the city have an influence on my work and I'm often inspired by simple forms and architecture.

Takeover

We’re Mikesian studio a Design and Art duo from Manchester. With a background in large scale design agencies, we’re interested in taking the principles of branding and communication, and placing them into inclusive, approachable artistic formats. Our practice centres around words, language, forms & colour - with a focus on making bold public art that’s accessible for everyone.

'Spring As A Rebel' by John-Paul Brown, one of the five artists exhibiting in our upcoming exhibition 'Hoarfrost On Our Lips', curated by Will Marshall. 🟨 👏

Preview 6-8pm Saturday 8th July as a part of S.O.S, a summer open studios event coinciding with MIF.

Salford based poet Esther Koch responds to the artworks of Yelena Popova, Catriona Robertson, Madi Acharya-Baskerville and John-Paul Brown through series of newly commissioned poems. Displayed within the exhibition, these texts will act as a means to interpret the show, and explore and build upon the complex and subtle range of ideas the artists deal with in their work, including: environmentalism and sustainability, materiality and the Anthropocene, visual language and symbolism, migration and movement, the ocean and the land, physicality and architecture, and personal relationships to the earth.

Exhibition continues 12-4pm Saturdays until the 12th of August
