Smolensky presents: Helen Beard (Helen Beard)

Helen Beard (b. 1971, Birmingham, UK) studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design and went on to have a fifteen year career as an assistant art director in the film industry. During this time, Helen continued with her artistic practice, working in the diverse mediums of paint, collage and needlepoint.

Her work vibrates with movement and colour in a celebration of the erotic experience. Using a vibrant palette and an ever changing framework: from close-crops to wide shots, to create a landscape of intimacy. Her paintings are a textural fusion between form and colour, utilising sinuous brush strokes in a motion akin to stroking skin.

She has exhibited in numerous group shows, including ‘True Colours’ (2018) at Newport Street Gallery. Solo shows include ‘It’s Her Factory’ (2019) at Unit London and ‘The Desire Path’ (2020) and ‘The Tulips are Too Excitable, It Is Winter Here’ (2023) at Reflex Amsterdam. Helen’s work has also been translated into a series of silkscreen prints, produced with UNIT Drops, Reflex Amsterdam and Paul Stolper Gallery.

JAMIE REID - Liberty queen (Artist and test proofs)

Jamie Reid is best known for designing album covers for the British punk rock band the S*x Pistols. These covers featured letters cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note. The imagery became a defining aesthetic of punk rock, particularly in the United Kingdom.

His well known works include the album “Never Mind the Bo****ks, Here’s the S*x Pistols” and the singles “Anarchy in the UK”, “God Save The Queen”, “Pretty Vacant”, and “Holidays in the Sun”.

We’re lucky enough to be able to offer collectors several highly sought-after and exclusive editions, produced by the artist in extremely limited quantities, produced during the ‘ragged kingdom’ era of the artists work many of these prints quickly found homes in private collections across Japan as part of a collaboration with X-Large at the Beams department store in Tokyo.

These editions offer a rare opportunity to own a piece of punk history by one of the art industry’s greatest provocateurs.

Robert Longo - Untitled (Falling flag) 2025

One of his most iconic and recurring motifs, the flag in Longo’s work represents power, authority and the American dream.

Making up less than half of the image, the flag is accompanied by a dense void of charcoal nothingness, reminding us of the intense nothingness behind the American dream and the futility of the pursuit of happiness.

This 9 colour silkscreen beautifully replicates the charcoal original with stunning textural elements.

David Hockney (1937-2026)

We are devastated to hear of the passing of David Hockney, an artist so close our hearts here at the gallery.

Hockney’s life and work as a Northern artist inspired much of our approach here at Smolensky. His prolific and unapologetic nature ensured that he will continue to resonate with generations of collectors all over the world.

Space One (Red) is a from Invader’s celebrated Space collection in 2013, highly sought after for its direct connection to the artist’s groundbreaking ART4SPACE project the first time an Invader mosaic was launched into space.
