Enjoy a different view of the river, as you cruise along the beautiful River Thames from Maidenhead to Marlow and return. En route a live commentary will tell you about the history, buildings, wildlife, legends, gossip, and scandals of the river.

Sixty years ago today Diana Barnato Walker became the first British woman to break the sound barrier, flying at Mach1.6.
During the Second World War Diana was one of the first women pilots of the Air Transport Auxiliary and would fly fighter aircrafts from factory or repair base to RAF flying units. She continued flying after the War, obtaining her commercial wings. On 26 August 1963, Diana flew into the history books in an English Electric Lightning T4 fighter plane, when she broke the sound barrier on a 40 minute flight from Middleton St. George, Yorkshire.
Diana died on 28 April 2008, and is buried in Englefield Green Cemetery

Maidenhead Heritage Centre’s Temporary Brunel Exhibition will still be on display for the next few weeks.

Tickets for the Maidenhead Heritage Centre’s River Thames Historical Cruise are now on sale, available to purchase online at https://maidenheadheritage.org.uk/shop/ or at Maidenhead Heritage Centre, on 18 Park Street, SL6 7JY!
The cruise will depart at 10am from Maidenhead on Tuesday 5th September 2023 and return at approx. 3:15pm. Tickets are just £30 for non-friends of the MHC, and just £25 for friends of the MHC
To avoid disappointment, buy your ticket as soon as possible - the cruise was sold out last year!
You will cruise along the beautiful River Thames from Maidenhead to Marlow, and back. En route a live commentary from Richard Poad will tell you about the history, buildings, wildlife, legends, gossips, and scandals of the river.

Swan Uppers are expected at Boulters Lock Boulters Lock at around 12.30pm, at Cookham Bridge about 1.30pm, and Marlow Lock at 5.30pm!
If you see some swan upping action please post some photos or video for everyone to see!

Swan Upping started today and the Swan Uppers are expected at Boulters Lock at around 12.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday), at Cookham Bridge about 1.30pm and Marlow Lock at 5.30pm
Better still, find a swan family with cygnets near a piece of accessible riverside and you should see all the action!

Swan Upping starts tomorrow!
What's it all about? Nowadays Swan Upping plays an important role in the conservation of the mute swans on Thames between Sunbury and Abingdon. It is a census of this year's cygnets, which are weighed and checked for any health problems or injuries.
The King's Swan Marker is David Barber (in the first photo, with a swan's father in his cap) who runs the boatyard at Cookham Bridge, while boatbuilders Guy and Lee Woottens are swan uppers.
The photos we're posting show that adult and young swans are quite docile once their wings have been restrained and they are being examined. When they're released they take off like a shot!

School's out and we're ready to welcome you to our gem of a museum in Park Street, Maidenhead.

Maidenhead Heritage Centre is proud to now display a Dynatron ‘Ether Conqueror’ Radiogramophone, recently donated by Vanessa Waters.
This impressive piece of technology made in Maidenhead around 1950 came in three different styles: Queen Anne, Regency, and Modern, with the walnut case as shown here.
The Radiogram’s features includes 12 valves, a 12-inch loudspeaker, and 4 radio bands: long wave, medium wave, and two short wave bands ranging from 10-20,000 metres, and radio stations from all around the world, including Cairo, Beijing, and Morocco were available to listen to!
