HM Prison Rye Hill, Mixed Media, 2023

every autumn the has an exhibition of artwork by people in prison and longterm institutions. The work is chosen by a guest curator. This year it was who titled the exhibition ‘In Case of Emergency’
The exhibitions always have some great artworks, drawing, painting, 3d and text. It is astonishing what people manage to make with few resources.
Paste Table Gallery likes to support this annual event and purchased this collage for the collection. The Koestler Foundation was started in the 1950s. Money from artworks sold is split between the KF the artist and victim support. .

Collage and Paint
From a series made during Lickdown in my shed on allotment
partly as a challenge to use up water based oils that were going spare. Being scared of paint I had to have the safety net of collage which went down first to ‘kettle’. the paint and keep control of it.
This is one of the smaller ones between A5/A4 using delivery bag kraft paper.

Assemblage/collage/painting by .noga. Particularly interested in the way this casts shadows which add to the work and would obviously change throughout the day as light hits it from different positions.
Laurence packs in a lot, including space and negative space in small works. Which goes to show you do not have to make large bombastic works to intrigue and excite the imagination..

To my embarrassment I misplaced this collage by .elliot I knew it wasn’t lost lost. Clearing and tidying a cupboard revealed this in it’s postal packaging along with a couple of other small works. Only fair to show it again. .

Some of the packaging collage arrives in from all over. I try and keep it all if interesting, and it is also a record of addresses. It is a recording of time and place and shows how Paste Table is a physical entity as well as having this virtual space.
