The Muse at 269 - Gallery / Studio

The Muse at 269 - Gallery / Studio Gallery / Studio / Graduate residency program We also have a limited number of opportunities for gallery hire within our calendar.

The Muse gallery was established in 2003, in order to support emerging artists by combining creative and commercial elements under one roof. We inherited the building from the creators of 'Green & Blacks' to convert the town house into a mayhem of cultural, creative and commercial activities. We offer exhibition space for contemporary artists, whether established or emerging, accepted purely by me

rit of work. Throughout the year community arts projects, musicians, film makers and live performers are invited to submit proposals for workshops and events at No. 269, Portobello Road and collaborate with our modest team of artists to present to London.

The Shape of Gesture – Alexandra Harley solo
21 May – 14 June

The artist says: Rather than pursuing sculpture’s monolithic authority, I am drawn to rhythmic motion, negative space, and precarious balance. Unease and tension are deliberately embodied — forms lean, hover, and press against equilibrium, poised on the threshold between stability and collapse. The resulting st9ructures are composite, dialogic, and relational, offering shifting readings from multiple viewpoints.
All artworks are available for purchase. Please contact the gallery for enquiries.

Naira Mushtaq
Exhibiting alongside Christos Tsimaris and Michalis Karaiskos in ‘Vanished Memories’

23 April – 17 May

Naira Mushtaq’s practice explores history, memory, and social commentary. Her work reflects on how memories change over time — evolving, fading, and reshaping themselves until we are left with fragments of truth.
Drawing on personal and collective histories, often connected to her home country of Pakistan, her paintings examine how narratives are formed and remembered. Through layered imagery and references to photographs and archival material, she considers memory as a fragile and shifting record.
Her work also reflects on themes of displacement, longing, and the ways power can shape what is remembered and what is erased.

All artworks from the exhibition are available for purchase. Please contact the gallery for enquiries.

Opening next week: 21 May, 6-9pm Shape of Gesture, a solo exhibition by Alexandra Harley
21 May – 14 June

This collection of bronze sculptures grows from Alexandra’s process of working in wax for the foundry. The transformation from soft wax to solid bronze reflects her interest in capturing movement and energy in permanent form. Although the works are not kinetic, they explore motion through the relationship between multiple elements. Forms lean, balance, and interact, creating a sense of tension and suspended animation — as if a fleeting moment has been held in time. Rather than solid, monolithic structures, the sculptures are built from shifting parts in dialogue, exploring rhythm, balance, and the fragile edge between stability and collapse.

All artworks will be available for purchase. Please contact the gallery for early enquiries.
