We are pleased to announce a new solo exhibition by Chris Day “Stories Cast in Glass“ during the at the London office.

‘Stories Cast in Glass’ has been curated by Gensler, SoShiro Gallery and Vessel Gallery as part of the London Festival of Architecture. By transforming Gensler’s office lobby into a temporary gallery, the exhibition creates an opportunity for contemplation and dialogue in an otherwise transitory space.

As part of the exhibition Gensler will be hosting a panel discussion on Wednesday the 10th of June, exploring the exhibition and the importance of art and community in creating a sense of belonging in the built environment.

-

Chris Day started his working life as a plumber and heating engineer in the West Midlands of England for two decades before deciding to change his life. Since graduating from Wolverhampton University in 2019, his rise has been startling.

He creates highly personal sculptural works in glass & mixed media and his intention is to discuss and investigate the treatment of black people in Britain & the USA, with much of his research focussing on the history of the slave trade in the Eighteenth Century and the events leading up to & during the Civil Rights Movement.

Combining materials used in both heating and electrical systems into his creations, Day finds he is able to create the perfect marriage of his artistic path and technical knowledge, both of which rely on dexterity and high levels of skill and craftsmanship.

Beautiful ‘Vetrograph Diopside’ is a unique artwork by Anne Clifton.

In the artist’s own words:

“Vetrograph play at the intersection of an intuitive drawing process and the physical and chemical reactions and interaction of coloured glasses.

Central to this is an exploration of relationship and inter-relationship; where one layer or drawn line of colour reacts with or against another, where colours fold and meet, separate or pull each other apart.

Sometimes the relationships are literal, sometimes littoral. Importantly, the edge is either defined or undefined and is only made apparent by the underlying elements.

Drawing from my previous studies of ceramics, with a focus on form and surface, I’m offering an experience of dissonance and a questioning of materiality.”
