Ikura’s pieces possess a delicate, beautiful, and deeply elegant translucency. This is achieved through the ‘Hotarude’ technique, where openwork carving is applied to the bisque ware, allowing light to filter through the glaze that fills the piercings.

Katase continues to explore his distinctive approach through a playful process of discovery, combining wheel-throwing with hand-building, integrating hand-building with molds, experimenting with reverse approaches to brushwork, and even adding colour to stones naturally mixed into the clay before incorporating them back into the material.j

Kazuhiro Katase
1979 Born in Shizuoka, Japan.
Training After graduating with an MA at Okinawa Prefectural University of the Arts, he learned slip casting from the aspect of creation/origination when he was an assistant to the potter Shigekazu Nagae.
2008 Started his own production in Toyota city and Seto city, Aichi.
2010 Awarded the Grand Prix at the Yokkaichi Pottery Competition.

Katahotori (Momoko Katase)
Born in Toyota, Aichi, Japan.
Studied restoration and traditional kintsugi techniques with the Sh*tsugei Densho no Kai (Association for the Preservation of Japanese Lacquer Art).
Working with a wide range of clients including galleries and private individuals, Katahotori undertakes restoration commissions while also developing collaborative works with other artists through the application of restoration techniques.

Today marks 23 wonderful years of Eclectic.
We are truly grateful to all the artists, customers, family, friends, staff, and of course our dogs, who have been part of our journey and supported us along the way. ❤️

We look forward to continuing this journey with you.

To celebrate our 23rd anniversary, Makiko Suzuki has created a special Gallery Eclectic Exclusive mug, MOKA.

This is the third piece in our original cup series, named after the gallery’s resident dogs.

MOKA came into my life at the age of 6 as a rescue Boston Terrier. She has a slightly longer body and wears a little nappy, and Makiko captured these adorable characteristics with so much love, creating a mug that is truly “MOKA”.

Because of its lovely tall shape, the mug has a generous capacity, and the narrower opening helps keep your drink warm a little longer. I personally love using it for my morning mocha. ☕️❤️

The shape was simply too cute, so Makiko also created a larger MOKA VASE.

Only 6 pieces are available, and this vase size will be a special one-time release.

Please come and visit us at the gallery to meet MOKA and see MOKA. 🐾
