The museum contains a wealth of information and artefacts relating to the five regiments of Foot Guards namely Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards. Along with the two regiments of Household Cavalry they make up Her Majesty’s Household Division and enjoy the treasured privilege of guarding The Sovereign and the Royal Palaces.

The latest in The Guards Museum podcasts has been released today.

Click on the link below and enjoy Podcast VII where the Director shares readings from the autobiography of a former Guards officer who was perhaps atypical of those who usually were commissioned into the Foot Guards.

Derek Bond was a reasonably successful actor but he volunteered at the outbreak of World War 2 and was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards. He describes his training and life serving in North Africa. During his service he won a Military Cross and was badly wounded such that he had to be evacuated back ti the UK for reconstructive surgery. Although perhaps not as politically correct as he might have been, his tales are as amusing as they are impressive.

The latest Podcast release from The Guards Museum is now online and available for your listening please. Please do remember to subscribe to the Podcasts and follow this page.

This week in Podcast V, the Director of The Museum, focuses on the life of a General who served for nearly 50 years, who met Wellington and was present at that great man's funeral. General Sir George Higginson commended in The Crimea, witnessed the Charge of the Light Brigade and amassed a wealth of experience in how to command men. Written whilst he was in his 90's the autobiography is full of first-hand accounts of pivotal moments in the history of the Guards. Considering the title of this podcast, his story covers all three essential elements!

The 3rd of the Guards Museum Podcasts has been released today.

In this episode the Director pauses the virtual tour of the museum to share some stories from one of the many wonderful books in the museum library. This week he shares some tales about Lt. Col. John Mackenzie-Rogan, who served for 50 years in the army and ended up as the Senior Director of Music of the Brigade of Guards. A proud Coldstream officer but also an enthusiastic musician too. He conducted his band for Kings and Queens but also under fire in the trenches in the Great War! A remarkable man by any standard.

Supreme Sacrifice

Each year at dawn on the 25th April, a military band stands on the southernmost area of Hyde Park Corner to remember those Kiwis and Australians lost in conflict.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and the cancellation of the 2020 Dawn Service, members of the Household Division Bands, following strict Government direction on social distancing, recorded this virtual memorial to our Commonwealth brothers and sisters.

Anzac Day was first made an official day of remembrance on April 25, 1916, when Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. These soldiers became known as Anzacs and this day has been celebrated every year since.

Some wonderful news about the concert in April!

LINEUP ANNOUNCED FOR CROYDON CONCERT, 24 APRIL
We are very pleased to announce that at our St George's Day concert at the Fairfield Halls in April, will feature Thomas Nielsen, the winner of the BBCRadio2 Young Brass Award, renowned mezzo-soprano Susanne Dymott, and the Croydon Citadel Band - The Salvation Army. We will all be supporting Veterans Aid, one of the country’s leading military charities, who care for Veterans in crisis.

For many years the Band of the Coldstream Guards has had close links to Croydon Citadel Salvation Army, some of our former and current members have come from within its ranks. The Band was formed in 1883 and has supported the local community in Croydon, United Kingdom for over 135 years.

Veterans Aid’s activities revolve around helping ex-servicemen and women in crisis. Specifically it deals with all the factors that contribute to crisis – significantly those leading to homelessness. Because homelessness is both a cause and effect, VA’s activities are diverse. The endgame is always to enable sustainable, independent living, but the interventions necessary to achieve this can involve days, weeks, months – or even years of investment.

As you can imagine, this concert is going to be a spectacular celebration of the most important of English days.

For more information and to purchase tickets for the concert please follow this link;

I bought this picture from a charity shop. I asked online and was informed it was the Guards Chapel at the Wellington Barracks. I was wondering if you could provide some information about it. I just wonder about its history.
