King's Cliffe Airfield Museum

It’s that time again…we are looking for volunteers to help set up, run, and breakdown the annual Kings Cliffe Airfield Museum Summer Open Day in August. Set up 7th/8th, open 9th, break down the same day.

Don’t worry if you can’t do every day…or all day. Every bit helps.

Setting up gazebos, putting out chairs, traffic marshaling, that sort of stuff.

If you helped last year, and can do so again, let us know.

Operation Mess Tent is go! Today KCAM team members got to work renovating a 1944 Mess Tent. Hopefully it will be s***k and span for our August Summer Open Day

The Museum is open this Sunday, 14th June, between 10:00 and 16:00.
Entry to the Museum is via the Rockingham Forest Park gates on the King’s Cliffe to Wansford Road. Please use the keypad at the gate to buzz Airfield Museum and we’ll let you in.

Lightning (no, not the P-38 variety) over the old cinema at King’s Cliffe.

While big finds and bits of planes are fantastic it is often the smaller finds that help bring the men that served at King’s Cliffe to life. These two bottles were picked up at the weekend by one of the team.
A Parker’s ink bottle that would have been used in one of the many offices dotted around the communal site. The four little legs that stop it tipping over and the indentations and ridges that allow it to be held securely during use are nice touches.
The other bottle is a Drene Shampoo bottle. Drene was a popular brand during the war. Originally launched in the 1930s by Procter & Gamble. It was historically notable for being one of the first synthetic, non-soap shampoos. It must have been quite powerful as the bottle is tiny!
Both these bottles will be cleaned up and on display at the museum soon.
