News from King's Cliffe Airfield Museum.
We have some big changes coming through the rest of this year. Therefore we will not be having our usual Sunday open days each month.
Further details will be coming soon and we will be reopening in the new year.
In the meantime the research, the Heritage Trail and all the other projects will continue. We are still hoping to run airfield tours later this year as well.

KCAM Workday - 28th August - Building 60
Today the team have cleared the rest of the remains of Building 60 and its associated pathways. With a little mechanical assistance the base is now clear and open. A little tidying up around the edges is still needed and then we will be on to Building 59.
We are now well over half way through the physical clearance of the building bases that made up the airfield’s Technical Site. We still have the signage to complete and then Phase One of the Heritage Trail project will be complete.

Another KCAM work day tomorrow. The aim is complete the clearing of the base of Building 60 and the associated pathways.
That will only leave Building 59 to be cleared and the further investigation of any remains of Building 62 that may survive. The base of Building 61 has been removed at some point with just a shallow depression left where the concrete was broken up.
Then we will need to put up the information boards and building signs and Phase One (Technical Site) of the King’s Cliffe Airfield Heritage Trail will be complete.

Eighty three years to the day that the 20th Fighter Group arrived at King’s Cliffe, now derelict and silent the Watch Office (or Control Tower) still sits looking out over the old abandoned airfield.
Built in 1941 to Drawing Number FCW4514 - Watch Office for Night Fighter airfields it is in poor condition. Windowless and with many internal walls missing it never the less still stands.
❌The Tower is on private property that is used for shooting and so should not be visited without the landowners permission. There are no public rights of way that go past the Tower❌
The King's Cliffe Airfield Museum are hoping to start out tours again later this year. These tours visit the Tower and give those participating a chance to explore what is probably the most iconic of all the buildings found on WWII airfields.
There are no plans to restore the building. It would take a huge amount of money to do so. There are, however, no plans to demolish it either as far as we know.
