Lynn Museum Lynn Museum is the home of Seahenge and the story of West Norfolk. Part of Norfolk Museums Service. Opening Times:
Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Enjoy this delightful museum which tells the story of West Norfolk. Step back in time as you walk through Seahenge, the astonishing Bronze Age timber circle that is the museum’s stunning centrepiece, and learn about the people who meticulously crafted these mysterious timbers. Then, browse around the local history gallery and explore the history of West Norfolk and its people. From archaeological evidence of early Roman invaders, via pilgrims in a thriving medieval port and the owners of magnificent Victorian fairground gallopers, to workers in 20th Century shops and factories, there is sure to be something for everyone. Sunday 12-4pm (April-September only)

Bring your little ones to Lynn Museum to enjoy Bugs and Beasties-themed activities, songs, a trail and a story. Make bug prints with potatoes, craft your own little beasties to take home and play in a sensory habitat!

📅On this day, 960 years ago, King Harold II was killed at the Battle of Hastings, marking the start of the Norman Conquest.

🌊This ceramic tile, from our collection, depicts a small section of the Bayeux Tapestry. Inscribed "Mare Transivit" which means "he crossed the sea" in Latin, it is from a larger inscription "Hic Willelm dux in magno navigio mare transivit" meaning "Here Duke William crossed the sea in a great ship" The Duke William mentioned is Duke William of Normandy, who would become William the Conquerer.

Investigate our unique Bronze Age wooden monument to find out more about Bronze Age Norfolk. Pupils will handle real prehistoric tools, use drama to explore the controversy surrounding the excavation of the circle, and find out about the science required to preserve Seahenge for future generations.

810 years ago, King John is said to have lost his treasure in the Wash. He would die just a week later, at Newark Castle, from dysentry.

This portrait of King John, by an unknown artist, is believed to have been in the Town Hall's possession at least 200 years.

King John's connections with King's Lynn (then Bishop's Lynn) date back to 1204, when he granted the town the status of a free borough, via royal charter. This provided the legal and economic framework for the already prospering town to become one of the country's most successful ports.
