There's something rather nice about having a little place to come back to after a day out on the Norfolk coast.

The Old Barn, near Heacham in North Norfolk, UK, is one of our cottages where you can do just that.

Spend the morning walking along the beach, stop somewhere for lunch, have a wander around the local villages, then head back and put your feet up.

Bring the dog, bring the family, or just enjoy a few quiet days away together.

No packed itinerary needed. Just a change of scenery and a bit of time to yourselves.

Looking at Holme for the weekend and the BBC has gone honest.

Fri 16: light rain, 8-15°C. Sat: drizzle, 10-14°C. Sun: light showers, 9-14°C. Fresh breeze, North Norfolk, UK. Sunrise late, sunset early.

Hunstanton morning highs about 10:00 Fri, 10:36 Sat, 11:28 Sun (UKHO via BBC). Soft rain does not stop knot season. It just sends you back to a hut or van with a proper heat source.

Open all winter here. Huts, vans, hard standing. Not a tent peg weekend.

I used to think campervan season ended when the September sun dipped.

Then October brought those quiet, clear evenings over The Wash at Heacham, North Norfolk, UK. You pull in, plug into electric, boil the kettle, and watch the sun go down over the water without another soul in sight. Beach is a three-minute walk. Dogs love the open sand.

Not a tent peg in sight. Just hardstanding, hook-up, and autumn coastal peace.

Aye, one of those days where nothing really goes to plan… and that’s exactly the point.

We started the morning with a cuppa, sat outside for a while, and just let the kids do their thing. No rushing off to the next attraction, no checking the time every five minutes.

Eventually, we headed out for a wander, found somewhere nice to stop for lunch, and then came back and did pretty much nothing again. 😂

And honestly? Those are often the best days.

You come to North Norfolk thinking you need to see and do everything, but sometimes the best bit is simply sitting back, enjoying the people you’re with, and watching the day go by.

That’s what a slow day at myMiniBreak looks like.

Sometimes, doing less is the perfect break.

I used to think a Sunday walk along Peddars Way was complete on its own.

Then I ended up at the White Horse in Holme-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk, UK, sitting under dark timber beams with a candlelit pint and fresh sourdough from their bakery around the corner. When the autumn wind blows off the dunes, having a 300-year-old pub literally steps from your glamping hut or van pitch changes the whole weekend.

Not a tent-peg offer. A warm hut or pitch, dark skies, and good ale down the road.

🔥 Bonfire Night hits differently when you’re in Norfolk…

I reckon there’s something rather special about this time of year.

The air gets colder, the evenings draw in, and it’s the perfect excuse to get away for a few days. Spend your days exploring Norfolk, then come back, get cosy and enjoy the evening.

The bit people do not say out loud is that Hunstanton main beach bans dogs in season. Old Hunstanton, Heacham and Holme-next-the-Sea still work if you pick the right stretch.

We take the muddy noses. We do not pretend every beach is open.
