A big thank you to all who turned out to meet local maker Danny Seeley this past Saturday (22nd) to find out more about his willow weaving technique and see our current exhibition of landscape paintings by Eileen Coxon sitting alongside Danny's beautiful willow baskets and other vessels, currently being showcased in Woolmarket House, King's Lynn.

This Viewing Room at Contemporary and Country ends this coming Saturday the 29th at 2pm n- so there are still 4 days to make the trip to view their work in person. The nearest car park to us is in Chapel Street or Tuesday Market Place.

We are open this week and are showcasing paintings by East Anglian artist Eileen Coxon alongside beautiful willow vessels created by local maker, Danny Seeley.

Walking provides Eileen Coxon with material in the form of photos, drawings, collected leaves, twigs etc., but most of all, memory. Paintings created ack in the studio is very much a two way ‘conversation’ between the painting and herself.

Danny Seeley's work is focused on functionality and beauty, combining traditional and contemporary techniques to create eye catching pieces: "I strive for self-sufficiency in almost all aspects of my day-to-day life, and willow has become an invaluable ally on this journey".

We have been big fans of Simon Carter's paintings for many years and have shown his work in exhibitions we have curated as well as in our online showroom. His son, Noah has been making a film of his father, giving an insight into this exceptional artist - keeping art and making, very much in the family!

In 2022 Noah Carter started meeting once a month with his father, Simon, to record how his dad at work. They met at 7 a.m. at Beaumont Quay, Essex, filming in the landscape from which Simon draws and later in the studio back in Frinton. They set up the cameras each day and left them running, observing Simon’s working practice and the digressions of studio life.
