Beach by Nick Ellerby / /

Nick employs a combination of transparent washes and thin layers of scumbled paint, combined with a vigorous but subtle geometry, until he achieves a balance and unity that he is happy with and an image that hopefully expresses some of his feelings about the places depicted.

We're pleased to be showing new work by Katie Braida...

Katie makes sculptural vessels and forms using a variety of hand building techniques. Working with soft clay coils and slabs, and allowing the material to move and suggest direction for development, the forms grow during this process.

"I hope people want to touch, are drawn to the surface, want to look inside and explore the forms. Touch is such an important part of the making process and it feels like an essential part of the process of experiencing the work."

View Katie's work in our summer exhibition, in the gallery now and online at birchamgallery.co.uk

New work from Nigel Lambert...

Nigel's slip-decorated wood-fired earthenware is both ornamental and functional.

The pots are thrown on a kick wheel or hand built from flat sheets of clay, cut and re-formed into oval and square forms. They are then dipped in a white clay slip, dried, and coated with green, amber and clear glazes. This produces a flat surface on which the blue oxides are painted, with new and old brushes, and odd bits of sponge, string and grass.

Nigel's love of pottery and paintings began whilst at art college in Cornwall. His interest in the work of abstract painters has influenced his ceramics and the decorative marks he makes.
