You have been doing a great job at finding those naughty gnomes hiding on our website!

How many gnomes can you spot here in front of the Manor House?

Did you know that it was the Bucknall family who added the brick façade to the front of the house in the 18th century? Their tenants, the Wilshin family, then left a lasting personal touch to Headstone by carefully carving their initials on to this new wall in 1772.
Come and take a closer look when the museum reopens!

This is the last (and possibly the hardest) of our object photo hunt. Can you find the nature emoji? 🍃

This is a Whitefriars Glass millefiori paperweight. This limited edition ‘Christmas 1976’ was designed by Geoffrey Baxter and depicts the Three Kings, from the Bible story.
Millefiori is a glassworks technique meaning ‘thousand flowers’ in Italian. Glass rods would be fused together and stretched whilst keeping the cross-section design intact (think of the seaside rock sweet, but you can’t eat this one!). These canes would then be cut into discs and a mosaic like pattern made.
Whitefriars paperweights would always have the Whitefriars monk logo and the year of manufacture hidden in the paperweight pattern.

This paperweight is on display with the Three Kings moulds in the Whitefriars Gallery Room, upstairs in the Manor House.

We hope you enjoyed having a closer look at some of our museum objects! Please come and see them in person when the museum reopens (sorry no emojis will be present!)

Today is the last day of our Nature Scavenger Hunt photos and we have two museum objects for you to look at.

Can you find the nature emoji in this object photo? 🍃 Let us know when you spot it!

This is a Winsor & Newton water colour paint set from 1886. This mahogany box has inserts for paints, brushes, and tools.
In 1835, Winsor & Newton developed the first ready-to-use moist water colour paints which were simpler and more convenient to use than the previous watercolour ‘cakes’ that had to be rubbed down with water on a surface before the colour could be used. These newer paints could easily be fitted into paint set boxes like the one we have here, and quickly gained popularity.
Royal recognition came for Winsor and Newton in 1841 in the form of appointment as artists' colourmen to Queen Victoria in 1841 and the issuing of the Royal Warrant which is printed inside the box lid.
Winsor & Newton’s canvas, brush and woodwork factory was relocated from London to Wealdstone in 1898, with the colour works following in 1937 and head office in 1938. The Winsor and Newton factory and offices eventually closed 2011 to move to a larger site outside of Harrow.

You can see this lovely set on display in the Industrial Harrow Room, upstairs in the Manor House.

This is a copper-alloy Rose farthing coin which was minted under Charles I from 1636-1644. The complicated design of the Rose farthing helped to reduce forgery. The abbreviated Latin writing on both sides of this coin translate as ‘Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain France and Ireland.’

This coin was found behind the Granary during excavations by Museum of London Archaeology in Summer 2015.

It is now on display in the Stuart Affluence Room, upstairs in the Manor House
