The Windmill at Windmill Hill A fully restored windmill which offers interest for the whole family! Open: Late Spring/Summer See our website or page for special events. Disabled WC.

This unique restored windmill is a fascinating attraction for all ages. It is considered one of the more important post mills in the country and has many interesting features. Information about the history, operation and restoration of the windmill is on display in the roundhouse and guided tours of the mill are conducted frequently. Built around 1815, the windmill at Windmill Hill was equipped with the most up-to-date shutters on the sweeps (sails) and was fitted with the ‘Hammond Governor’ in the 1870s. It was converted to steam power in 1894 and continued to mill flour until around 1913. The mill then remained derelict for several decades until it was rescued in the 1990s. Open to the public 2.30 to 5pm on Sundays and bank-holiday Mondays from Easter until mid-September. Private tours for families and small groups available on Fridays (am and pm).
