Polegate Windmill Polegate Windmill was built in 1817 and powered by wind until 1942. Restored in 1965 with internal machinery intact.

Polegate Windmill was built in 1817 and worked by wind up until 1942, then electrically driven to one set of stones until 1962. Heritage Lottery funded repairs to brickwork and cap carried out in 2004/5. Sadly, the timber supports in the tower are in a very poor state and most of the floors are now supported on Acrow props. This means we cannot allow any public access to the tower but the mill museum on the ground floor is still open to visitors.

Windmill Wednesday and Steve and Trevor were in their usual position at the gallery! Securing new supports and slats on top.
I was checking over our new PA system ready for our dog show on 13th September. I also managed to grab some photos of our 1862 stones and part of the huge vertical shaft I'd not seen before.
Fay was attacked by a massive spider in the kitchen, I can't stand them so Trevor came to her rescue.

Windmill Wednesday and lots going on at t'mill. Steve and Trevor were still replacing rotten timbers on the gallery and were doing this in the same area that is shown on a photo from the 1970s!
We had two builders round to quote for work on the Engine Shed and a teenager was passing and asked for a look around.

If any members are interested, we are opening our garden on Saturday 8th August for St Wilfrid's hospice as last year was such a success. We are situated just north of the Triangle at Lower Willingdon. We will have two spaces for blue badge holders on our drive but there is road parking around the Triangle or in St Annes road behind us.
There is a bus stop on each side of the main road near us, called "Thurrock Close" and served by the numbers 28, 53, 500. Access to the garden is from our back passage and is wheelchair friendly. Feel free to bring fold-up chairs if you want to sit and enjoy the Howlerz playing their folk music from about midday.
It's a windmill free zone!

Windmill Wednesday and Steve and Trevor were carrying on replacing rotten timbers in the gallery. It was so hot today!
I had to turn the sweeps one by one to untie my bunting and they are very stiff to turn.
Julia came over from Worthing and James, a new handyman popped in.
Fay and Linda R' had cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom for the arrival of the hygiene lady giving us a new rating and the result was.......... 5
Linda H' was scraping the walls on the stone floor, nice and cool there.
Mark Berry, a mill volunteer, popped in for a visit.
We have one winning raffle ticket left over, we think it was for Martin. If anyone knows, can they message us please.
