If Guy Fawkes and friends had have got their way, we would not have this beautiful morning cap. It was given by Charles I to the Vernon family, when he stayed in Farnham, on his way for trial and execution in December 1648.

Before minced meat became available in shops, people would use manual mincers to create their burgers. In WW2, various foods were rationed and fats were seen as a treat, not feared like they are today. So grab yourself some lard on toast and enjoy a cuppa.

A collections care day at the museum and these caught the curators 👁. Pamphlets distributed to the people of Britain by the Ministry of Information during WWII. As the first part states the order was “TO STAY PUT”. As the curator I reflected, realising that this simple pamphlet helped me better understand the realities of the past that I’m fortunate enough to not face today. This reflection and those had by any visitors to any museum, is one reason why museums collect and protect our heritage! #museums #heritage #collections #gallery
