Barber shear sharpening, I love that the barber I have been using approached me recently, as they were struggling to get their shears sharpened. Having dabbled with scissor and shear sharpening in the past (there is a lot of science that goes into properly honing and re setting barber shears, never mind if the gaps need adjusting) I took a couple to trial for free. Anyway, at my next hair cut I came away with these 8 to sharpen ranging from entry level to high end in quality. These are all cleaned, inspected, then honed by hand up to 5k, then their edges are polished further before a light strop. They are then reassembled, adjusted and tested.
If you would like to know more about my process let me know, as I have a couple left to do.
Most scissor & shear sharpeners have several thousand pounds invested in specialist machines, but it is perfectly possible with a steady hand and good quality stones to achieve the same results, as was done in days of old.
Lastly, It's great to use my specialist skills to support a local small business and be of use in the local community 💪

I do love these restorations. This rather old and well used 5lb kent pattern broad axe came my way to be brought back to serviceable condition. This axe belonged to the customers grandfather, and as such efforts were made to preserve as much of the aged look as possible. Sadly there was no makers mark, so tracking down the history is difficult. I would estimate this axe to come from the 1800s though by the style of cheeks. I doubt the handle is that old though!
